A good way to get everyone to yell at you is to say genAI will likely be roughly as disruptive and transformative as the internet. Puts you way out of AI skeptic territory, but discounts "the hype" by 90% or more.
I understand why people are exhausted by AI hype, and why those of us squarely in the corner of "human dignity uber alles" see AI doomerism as self-serving hype, but I *really* think people on the left broadly need to start thinking seriously about the possibiltiy of the hype being...true.

everything this admin does falls into the "really stupid" bucket or the "insanely sinister" bucket. by default most stuff goes into the really stupid bucket. while putting a really stupid item in the insanely sinister bucket looks bad, putting an insanely sinister item in the stupid bucket is worse

When I bought ours in 2024, we had to lock it down before it even arrived at the dealership. The reason you don't see flotillas of Siennas on the lot like you do Tundras is because they're all sold before they're shipped.

I remember thinking this specifically about the show Atlanta. It's just so unapologetically black, makes little attempt to hold the hands of viewers outside southern black culture, thick with inside references & jokes, almost defiantly insular, and so good because of it! I like things not For Me.

Watched the halftime show. I guess where I fundamentally depart from MAGA is that, when I see something like this, celebrating a culture that's not quite mine, with some references I don't get, something that's not For Me ... I *like* it. I like seeing inside other worlds. Why wouldn't you?

i know pokemon is still popular with younger people but millennial cultural hegemony is going to rock. we're just aging into the marketing demographic where everything is going to be catered directly to us. it's going to rule and we will do whatever it takes to make it last until we're 300 years old

If this were really done the old-fashioned way, it would be a more impressive physical feat than anything we'll see on TV this Olympics.

Another cold (but not even THAT cold) clear windless day in Texas, another ERCOT solar record. Over 30 now, get used to it.

Just now having a crazy realization: when it comes to setting new solar generation records in ERCOT, irradiance is now only half of the equation. You really can only set new records on days with pretty high loads, and ideally low wind too, to minimize curtailment.

Bari's CBS moves have been reminding me a *lot* of church plants. Always launching with flashing neon promises about being the different kind of church you've been waiting for and then you show up on Sunday morning ready to be dazzled and it's just John Piper with tattoos.
I think the defining quality of Bari Weiss media is her insistence on the need for dramatic change or bold action - followed by a parade of the most aged, tired, impossibly dull figures or ideas, except they’re also always underqualified amateurs or cranks.
Along w/ Huberman, CBS also announced Mark Hyman, a longtime RFK Jr ally and functional medicine proponent, and Peter Attia, a longevity influencer, as contributors. All three were cited by Kennedy in a recent interview as the best people for lifestyle advice.

You walk into this bar and show your ICE mugshot, you don't pay a dime.
Scrolling through the photos of Pam Bondi's "Minnesota rioters," it's just hero after hero. Every photo includes a cowardly DHS agent with their back to the camera.

Bondi thinks she's going to win the propaganda war with this shit, but it's never been more clear that they're losing.
