One of the major reasons we are here right now is that the white electorate does not reward politicians for making their lives better if that improvement also benefits non-white people.

Fascinating that the only performers tonight are country musicians. It’s fine. Everything is fine.

We literally do not know why he was killed. He could’ve had gambling debts for fucks sake.

I feel like I’m being gaslit
The MAGA leadership is not mourning Kirk—they’re using him. I imagine the
board of the federalist society was up all night strategizing as to the best way to spin his death.

If liberals like Ezra are saying that someone who called for Gay people to be stoned, trans people to be lynched, Black people to accept police violence and women to obey did politics "the right way", that is in some respects more alarming that the bloviation of the far right. Bend that knee, Ezra.

Ezra Klein isn’t theorizing Charlie Kirk. He is theorizing politics. And he is saying that Charlie Kirk’s brand of white supremacy was a good way of doing politics.

I hope you all recognize now that Ezra is a total fucking ghoul

Just to be clear I am on the political side of “nobody gets shot for their political speech” but we are living in the political reality where that’s opposed because some people want to preserve their access to shooting the likes of me, and I will not feel bad when they suffer for what they built

He was just, like, a guy. Not a politician. Not a statesman of any kind. Just some really mean guy. Flags at half mast. Yankee moment of silence. Whatever the shit this is.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Charlie Kirk wasn't from New York. He didn't live in New York. The shooting didn't happen in New York.

In July he Tweeted "Was just in NYC all weekend with our family. Never felt safe. So many people in the city who don’t belong."

Why did the New York Yankees have a moment of silence for him?

Part of what keeps America so violent is the insistence that people perform care, empty goodness and absolution for white men who espouse hatred and violence.

This country makes a lot more sense when you learn that the only man to be executed for crimes against the country from the Civil War was the Confederate administrator at Andersonville, the POW/death camp (Henry Wirz)—and he still has a statue in Georgia
Reconstruction went so poorly because there were too many living Confederates

If your law is good when there are good people in office, but dangerous when there are bad people in office, your law is bad.
Separately and notably, GLAAD — which dropped its opposition to KOSA last year after changes to the bill, easing its path to Democratic support — told me it now wants lawmakers to review the bill in light of "changes in the FTC and other government leadership." www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

I’m just a broke political observer on the internet who is part of the demographic that keeps the Democratic Party viable (so no one will ever listen to me), but if I had control of a comms budget, I’d put a lot into issue-based media that focuses on what Medicaid cuts would put at risk

And the reality is that we could all have much nicer stuff if we pooled our resources and actually invested in public spaces. But we keep getting outplayed by the Scrooge MacDucks whose only joy comes from having more "stuff" than the rest of us.

The ONE THING people with large audiences refuse to do to fight fascism is stop publishing on Substack. People are starting to publish on Substack—this month—because Substack keeps paying people to ignore their own moral center.

You can’t fight fascism in a Nazi bar.

You. Just. Fucking. Can’t.
Watching people post about how they hate Nazis and are committed to fighting fascism but the one thing that would be easiest for them to do is stop publishing on substack, but they won’t do it.

You’re not fighting fascism. You’re enabling it.

They kidnapped someone off the streets. They did so for racist, eugenicist reasons. This person committed no crime, and even if they had, deserved the right of due process guaranteed by the Bill of Rights. Trump sent them to a foreign prison and argued that he had no jurisdiction. Make it hurt.

i have argued before that MAGA is recapitulating antebellum pro-slavery ideas about citizenship and bodily autonomy. one thing i am also thinking about, when it comes to the rendition of people to a foreign gulag, is the way it is reminiscent of the kidnapping of free blacks for sale into slavery
Team Trump Is Gaming Out How to Ship U.S. Citizens to El Salvador
Donald Trump’s administration is talking internally about denaturalizing American citizens — and potentially sending some to El Salvador.

My biggest frustration in terms of rising to this moment is: people obviously do not understand that there's a whole psyop strategy around DEMORALIZATION.

I do not necessarily think that every doomcryer is insincere, but to steal hope is still to hand our enemies weapons.
