Born #OnThisDay in 1887 was Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. Despite having almost no training in mathematics, he is regarded as one of the greatest mathematicians of all time. He became one of the youngest Fellows in the Royal Society's history when he was elected in 1918 at the age of 31.

Goodnight from George Pickess, fishing the canal in strained hope of legendary Blood Eels for his Christmas pie. Goodnight from Bob Warmer, raging that his electromagnetic UFO detector has been banned from future Meldon Hill skywatches for beeping too noisily. Goodnight from Hookland.

Look at this beautiful necklace my cousin has made me! It's a cabochon ruby I bought years ago which was made into a pendant I never wore (pic on the right). My cousin specialises in remaking jewellery and I am chuffed to bits with this.

Folklore walks. Not just across imagined lines on maps of nations, not just across time itself. Folklore instinctively walks towards landmarks. When stories see a ruin, a notable tomb or impressive tree, they travel towards them to tether themselves in the landscape. – Dr. M. Benn #Folklore

Portsmouth was closed in 1900 for a couple years for urgent foundational work but did not collapse.
Wells started showing signs of subsidence mid construction, so the master mason (I suspect got high and then) threw a Hail Mary in the form of this unique situation. So far it has worked.

Unfortunately it seems likely that southern Finland will see a widespread green Christmas this year. The largest temperature anomalies will occur just before the holidays.

Resembles a bit the situation in December 2020 when it was last time widely a snowless Christmas.

A quite startling overperformance for Democrats in tonight's special election for a state Senate seat in Kentucky:

Democrat Gary Clemons won 72% to 25%.

He was defending a Dem-held seat where Kamala Harris beat Trump by 5% last year.
