I like it in a "diversity of tactics" context, but I'm slightly concerned with the possibility of making people lean the direction of: "See! We just have to show that the Gestapo is dumb! Wearing costumes and waving signs is enough. We don't have to actually fight them in any other way."

the problem is, and i have no idea what to do about it, they mean it. they don't believe you have any rights as the governed save for those they arbitrarily bestow or deny you on any given day. you are an occupied people to them. they have a view on the music you like and who you fuck

I enjoy a well-thought-out, rule-based magic system in fiction as much as anyone, BUT I also think that we should give more props to what Terry Pratchett did in the Discworld books, where it was less about rules and more about vibes and, more importantly, what fit a given story the best.

(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

The leadership of the Democratic Party (if not most of their members) do not care about democracy nearly as much as maintenance of the status quo of the congressional campaign-industrial complex. They see it as a campaign issue, not a social goal, because they are only incentivized to campaign.

We have set up a government where the only thing anyone knows how to do is campaign and the opposition party has no will to govern, only to stumble as quickly as possible into the next election season so that their only skills are applicable.

They know nothing of power, so they will never get it.
