Folks not in this space wouldn’t know this, but it is very normal for one company to buy up several companies in the same niche government space, consolidate them, and raise rates while functionally abandoning the software. Tyler Technologies is the usual culprit here.

I try to adhere to the "words mean things" principle because advocacy.
If we go to the "every evil thing that happens is the *worst* form of evil imaginable" standard, we both lose a lot of tools and, more likely, demoralise people.

i think a lot about how the job of local newspapers even 15 years ago was largely to go to town meetings, events, etc and record what happens there. people in any town in the country could keep track of what their local government and reps are doing, and that pipeline's been all but cut
