Maine is so interesting because the English/French divide that was so important in the 19th century (Quebecois who moved to the state to work the big mills) still persists to this day, though nobody in the state legislature is talking about "Frenchmen" vs "Yankees"

A type of practice that I find interesting historically is the rigorously untrue. Astrology, for instance, was often a very tightly defined practice with a seriously requirement of learning: it just wasn’t actually real.

Anecdotal but I am feeling a vibe shift at least in terms of gender stuff. Like back towards feminism.

No, and when she published an opinion piece posing as one at FP, her response to a thorough debunking calling out numerous plain factual errors was to insist on a podcast debate about it, not a correction or retraction.
Asking this seriously: has Bari Weiss ever in her career reported out an investigative story?

Part of how we know he had a large network of johns and that it wasn't purely for him and 'a few friends' is the shear volume of girls involved and how long they lasted.

There were over 100 girls in his Florida bust ALONE who were mentioned, and most spent years there with 100s of 'visits'.
This stuff was just on an absolutely industrial scale. This is a girl who was aged 14 to 16 and she alone saw Epstein *100 times*. This, btw, was at the peak of Epstein's influence and his celebrity friendships:

weiss does not know how to run a news organization, and so she's doing what she does best: hosting fatuous "debates" involving the people in her group chats www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/bus...

The news division is also planning a town hall with Maryland Gov. Wes Moore in the 'Things That Matter' series, with Bank of America lined up as a sponsor.

Occasionally I check back on Twitter and this conspiratorial tendency that someone coming to a different conclusion must be the result of malicious intent annoys me.

Reasonable reasons for the way those reconstructions were colored are put forth in the article but Sam goes straight to "trolling".

Just a propose of this, I was talking with a coworker (we are both bi) about how dating is awful now and we both agreed that we basically only date women now because men have just lost their fucking minds
Do you want to drive hordes of women to the gay church? Because this is how you drove hordes of women to the gay nightclubs.
I was talking to a young Orthodox woman recently and she was telling me that there is an enormous gender divide emerging in American Orthodoxy because of this. The young women just want to, you know, go to church, while the young men (mostly converts) are looking for their tradwife.

briefcase carrier meets peter principle

the thing about her is she has no actual principles and also she's very dumb

There's a few exceptions (Burns, Haines, Kahl, even Sullivan to a point) but by and large this is the summary of all the Obama retreads in Biden FP
“I worked hand-in-glove with the UAE on the situation in Gaza. They were as constructive a partner as you could have…The idea that that same country is backing the Janjaweed [in Sudan] to be conducting mass rape & murder...& not being held accountable, including by the way by the Biden admin,"

the science is incredibly clear on this: the single most effective way to prevent the spread of airborne diseases, including flu and covid, is improving indoor airflow. nothing else comes close.
We're half a decade into studies finding that improving airflow in classrooms will reduce disease transmission enormously, and that bleaching surfaces etc. does very little. And yet nothing changes. Waves of flu and colds wash over schools, and the schools pretend it's an act of God.

The intentionality of this varies but the world the transphobes are creating is one in which your safety depends on being readily intelligible as a particular gender and conforming to the expectations of every nearby busybody
one thing that is fairly obvious is that the amount of trans people you will encounter IRL is not actually that large in the grand scheme of things

so the enhanced enforcement of gender norms to prevent trans people are just as likely to be enforced on cis women who aren't femme
look, i think you have a right to free expression. i also think you have an obligation to actually look at what zoomer gays think of the rest of the community instead of assuming the astroturfed Tory groups are the real HIDDEN voice of the gays

I don't know what to call it, but there is a very common and annoying social media phenomenon where people demand validation for mildly antisocial behaviour, instead of just feeling mildly guilty about it like a normal person.
These are pretty naked -- and therefore instructive -- examples of the sorts of defenses that people offer to try and get off the hook
