This is the closest thing to a corporate mission statement one can get from an anarchist:
next week's episodes are gonna include some mindblowing revelations about the ancient greek connotations for the word "anarchia" and I will be so excited about this really nerdy thing that I will somehow convince both my guest and my listeners to be excited too.

If you want
to protect yourself
against the flu
that’s going around:
wear a mask.

And if you want
to protect yourself
against the Covid
that’s going around:
wear a mask.

And if you want
to protect yourself
against the “something”
that’s going around:
wear a mask.

If they respond
(and they will respond)
to the mask you wear
and the precautions you take
by telling you
that at this point
nobody cares
about the pandemic anymore,
remember: the fact
that they feel so compelled
to tell you this
is because your actions
are proving them wrong.

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

Some say
this pandemic began
on November 30, 2019
as that was the day
of the first confirmed Covid case.

And some say
this pandemic began
on March 11, 2020
as that was the day
of the WHO’s pandemic declaration.

But I think all would say
this pandemic
has lasted far too long.

"I understand the urge to want to go back to Twitter (or Tuenti back in 2009), but those sites don't exist anymore. We're like Ulysses; 20 years have passed, and there are freeloaders holding banquets in our living room and drinking our wine. There's nowhere to go back."

My aunt, the doctor,
told me a new joke.
She asked:

How can you tell
that we’re in
for a rough winter?

I said I did not know.

And in response
she sent me a graphic
from New York City’s
Department of Health
that recommended
wearing a mask.

And then neither of us laughed.

Nickel misers?
Nickel nickers is RIGHT THERE
now that they've stopped making pennies, americans should update our sayings:

* you can't put your two cents in, you must now put your five cents in
* nickel for your thoughts?
* a nickel saved is a nickel earned
* nickels from heaven
* worth every nickel
* penny-pinchers are now nickel-misers

Or in the case of COVID, the NYT told the horrible truth early on but, along with the rest of the media, downshifted to the more soothing “it’s mild/like a cold” narrative for the return to “normal” in 2021/22. From June 2020:

I am kind of sitting here mouth agape as I realize that the thing that really got eight Democrats to cave was a provision which provides backdoor criminal and civil immunity to them personally by making it functionally impossible to ever investigate the Senate
read the actual bill text and this is quite literally a provision designed solely to impede civil and criminal investigations into United States Senators and their staff. www.appropriations.senate.gov/imo/media/do...

Let’s be clear: this is class warfare.

Tens of thousands of working-class Americans are going to die because of this “deal.”

Real people. Real deaths. For another tax break for the rich.

Those who voted for it — Republicans and Democrats — are on the side the 1%, fighting against the rest of us.
This deal to reopen the government is fucking disgraceful.

Tens of millions will lose their healthcare. Trump will be emboldened.

This is exactly what’s wrong with Democratic Party leadership and why we need more people in Congress who will actually hold the line.

“Looks like democrats are about to cave”
It’s not a surrender when you’re on the same side and pretending not to be.
It’s act 3.
You should be angry about the play and ask who is writing it and to what purpose.
