as of yesterday (Wednesday) 27.52% of eligible voters have sent in voting papers for the Wellington City Council elections. we’re ahead of 2022 and 2019, but have fallen behind 2016, the year bookended by the deaths of David Bowie & Carrie Fisher - a.k.a. where everything started going wrong
A snip from electionz.com showing that 44,397 people out of a possible 161,318 have voted in the Wellington City Council elections - or 27.52%

Now this is going to come as a shock but it seems that the Cones Hotline is a complete waste of time and money.
A graph from Newsroom showing Van Veldens Cones Hotline is a waste of money.

Data shows Wellington City Council's cone report outcomes -
Sites found to be in order 54
Closed with no action 35
Out of scope 22
Contractor advised to move cones 5
Council moved cones

Wellingtonians - Are you interested?

An hour of unlimited play on the machines at Ye Olde Pinball Shoppe before regular opening hours on a Sunday from 10-11 am. N95 or better masks to be worn at all times and there is an air purifier. $20/person and we need 25 people to make the event happen.
The graphic has a violet background and white text. The text reads: Wellingtonians are you interested? Pinball wizards aren't required, but a mask is. Dividing the text is a photograph of the interior of an empty pinball arcade. There are also small graphic images of an N95 mask, and Aotearoa Covid Action's logo.

Peter Jackson is a dickhead landlord not some benevolent city saver? WHO COULD HAVE SEEN THIS COMING?
An image from Facebook:

!!!. Don't let this be the last summer at Chocolate Fish
Cafe.
This week we were given the devastating blow, without warning, by The Head of Business Affairs for Sir Peter® Jackson and Dame Fran Walsh, that they have decided to close our beloved café for good.
Despite our requests, we haven't yet been given the opportunity to speak with Peter and Fran directly, and we are asking for that chance.
After 15 years of building this community together, we don't want the laughter of kids on bikes, the joy of giving well-behaved dogs their TUX biscuit, the clink of coffee cups, or the sight of big bikes leaning outside to simply disappear forever.
We don't want to be forced to close. We don't want to be shut down.
We want the chance to keep going-or at least to say goodbye properly with one more long, beautiful summer.
Please share this far and wide. Help us show how much the Choc Fish means to Wellington, to NZ, and to everyone who has made memories here.
#SaveChocolateFish #OneMoreSummer #ChocFishForever
.. We will add a longer post shortly to explain in full detail but we wanted to get your attention and ask for your help asap

The old band is back under Better Wellington for the 2025 election, with the ticket Independent Together, including friend Guy Nunns. Guy is well known in these circles. He can be found in footage ranting towards parliament at the failed Unite 14 Days of Protest.

Daniel Tither (back of the photo) campaigned for Ray. He secured an interview for Chung on The Platform. He works with Inwood often. He was part of The S.B. Group, third-party promoters for New Zealand First in 2023, along with Paul Heffernan, the Better Wellington authoriser.

A cropped picture of the VFF coordinators at the VFF Connects event in 2022 with Daniel Tither circled in red at the back row. Daniel Tither comment on a Facebook page supporting Ray Chung: "There's no doubt a lot of people in Wellington are as predictable as
you describe. One thing I will say about Ray Chung though is that he has exceeded people's expectations before.
In 2022, when he got into council for the first time after previous attempts, some initially thought he couldn't do it.
I tried to get him an interview with Sean Plunket and Sean seemingly wasn't interested in talking to Ray (he can't get enough of him now), but Michael Laws agreed to do it."

Better Wellington/independent Together not even managing to switch to the right Facebook account to claim they’re not the same organisation is some kind of performance art, right?

There’s no way the WPF committee'd be able to create 70+ events we’ve had at past festivals by ourselves. Maybe you’re thinking about an event you’d like to see at WPF 2026? But you don't know how to start?

We've put together a beginner's guide to events! www.wellingtonpridefestival.com/how-to
Create your own Pride events in five easy-is steps

1. Come up with a great idea
2. Choose a venue and a time
3. Tell people about the event
4. Sell tickets - or is it free?
5. Run the event on the day

Catch phrases like "strong leadership, real change" as if we didn't already have a wahine toa who brought us to something that doesn't need changing now.
