@bennet.senate.gov you're not going to vote to fund this at all, right?
Here's what ICE is up to in Northeast Minneapolis today. Absolutely heartbreaking.

What if, instead, we took some lessons from the Twin Cities' organizing and community solidarity, and applied them to the cities in which we currently live?
literally everything i’ve seen this month makes me want to move to twin cities and build a life there

Reminder: All it would take to end the murder of American citizens by an untrained government goon squad is 16 Republicans in Congress voting with Dems to defund ICE (or 23 to impeach and remove Trump — 3 in House & 20 in Senate). That’s it. 23 Americans can vote for the public and end all of this.

There are times, rarely, when the moral calculus, the economic calculus, and the political calculus all align and point in the same direction.

Now we just have to convince our Reps and Senators of this very clear truth.
If you have to pick US economic collapse or WWIII, I’m going with option one. But ideally, Trump’s opponents and foils would try to avoid this crossroads by getting loud now. Impeachment has become a kitchen-table issue.

‘AI features’ seem increasingly to be good for one thing only: to illustrate how little capitalism values the idea of consent.
Why do I have to spend an hour a day turning off the 'AI' and 'smart features' that I thought I had turned off the day before.

I'm re-starting the old Ghost newsletter engine, and I wrote about Trump's Davos speech, whether or not this is 'who we are', and an oblique Simpsons reference that might only make sense to me. Come for the hot takes, stay for the cool photos!
Chicago, January 2026 - Selfies at Trump Tower
I listened to Trump's Davos speech, all of it, in real time. Which is to say, I had it on in the Chicago hotel room where I'm staying for a few days, between visits to family in Michigan and friends i...

My rep @pettersen.house.gov is voting 'hell no' - is yours?
So the House is going to vote TOMORROW on the DHS funding bill that includes funding for ICE.

There's a real chance we can get Dems to vote NO on any bill with ICE funding to sink it.

Once it goes to the Senate we likely lose this chance.

24 hours. Go.

If I were a @democrats.senate.gov Senator, I would have my staff put together a written report of every unlawful ICE detention, action, etc. And then I would read it, filibuster-style, on the floor of the Senate during the debate about passing this funding bill.
Shut down the government until ICE is abolished. This is a 5 alarm fire.
🚨HOLY CRAP. An ICE whistleblower just revealed a secret memo authorizing ICE officers to break into homes without a judicial warrant, which DHS's own legal training materials say is unconstitutional!

ICE then hid the memo from the public, passing it along by word of mouth and private conversation.

🧵 for your evening reading.

Congress, do your job.
This is what’s so stupefying about Congressional leaders: Republicans, Schumer, Durbin, Jeffries.

My brothers and sisters. You are leading the U.S. Congress at a moment of INDESCRIBABLE world historic import.

Your faces and names will be plastered all over history books. How do you think you
We are watching one of the wildest things a nation-state has ever done: A superpower is committing suicide because the GOP Congress is too cowardly to stand up to the Mad King.

This is one of the wildest moments in all of geopolitics ever.

As an American who goes to Europe regularly, and for whom something like this would seriously fuck up my entire next few years, I have to say the EU should absolutely do something like this because the MAGAs are ultimately cowards and they will back down when faced with strong opposition.
The goal here is to do whatever it takes to force the MAGAs to back down before we get to a point of "the USA launches an imperialist war against the European Union."

Achieving this may require temporarily inconveniencing us Americans.

sorry!! tough shit!

One more argument for Democrats to support impeaching the Trump regime: do it to him before he does it to you.
Minnesota Sen. Steve Drazkowski: "Tim Walz is losing oil pressure rapidly. A large and growing number of Minnesotans would really like to see him in jail. We will see articles of impeachment introduced in the Minnesota House when the legislator convenes on the 17th of next month."
