Conversation with my mid-teen went from how his mate is hoping for a new processor for his PC but, y'know, prices, to how he's glad he future-proofed his PC with a something something chip when prices were low and then he told me about the possibility of an AI bubble.

Proud economist mum 😍

A relative did jury service before Xmas.

Tough case. Sexual assault of multiple victims. Victims in court and obvs distressing content.

Relative has 2 daughters and found it v hard.

When I asked what support was offered, I was told they were given the Samaritans no.

Seems neglectful

Turns out a vague resolution to be time efficient and study more in 2026 doesn't work nearly as well as having my home invaded by noisily gaming teenagers

A useful lesson so early in the year

I'll have to note my deadlines so I can order my kids' friends in at key points

if you can't afford clothes, it's not clothing poverty, it's poverty. If you can't afford sanitary protection, it's not period poverty, it's poverty. Divvying up poverty into little bits hides the fact that poverty is poverty and gives right-wingers an in to say "poor people need to budget better."
Charity warns of rise in 'clothing poverty'.

Profiteering and cuts in real wages force people rely on charity.

Charity provides food, clothing, air ambulance, hospices and more in the 6th largest economy.

Read this in my parents' Times today.

What's to blame for flooding? Poor drainage infrastructure and where & how we build our houses.

Good points.

Despite mentioning intense rainfall several times, there was absolutely no mention of climate change 😶

No, of course I'm not surprised
