America, there's something you should know.

The top three kinds of books that young people (under 25) offer to sell me on Dec. 26 are:

- "Chicken Soup for the _____"

- "Oh, the Places You'll Go"

- Books of New Yorker cartoons

I'm just saying. Keep it in mind for graduations and birthdays, too.

I remember the phrase "they can't be allowed to melt back into society" re: the de-Baathification of Iraq after the war there. Like everything about that experience, the attempt was cynical, stupid, and botched. But there really should be a plan about what we do with guys like these in the future.
ICE detain father shopping on Christmas Eve—then steal his family's groceries.

Then 3 agents divvy up his paid for food—taking what they want for themselves.

"Can I just get the wife's number to call and let her know?" woman asks.

"No, guess he should've complied," agent says.

An anecdote: 10 yrs ago a german, v successful pro soccer player - after retiring and of his own accord - decided to come out. It caused a genuine debate about homophobia in the sport and from what I gather, he hasn't regretted it. But no other players of similar caliber have followed his example.
I really can't express how creepy it is to want real people to make their private relationships public so you can fetishize them...because you like a TV show.
Again, I truly *loved* this week’s episode of Heated Rivalry, but IT IS A WISH FULFILLMENT ROMANCE. The success of a gay hockey romance TV show, largely watched by people who are neither hockey players nor hockey fans, is not “proof that the world is ready and all we would do is love you”

I don’t know how it works at the New York Times, but my editors at The Guardian would never let me publish this if they knew that I was one of the elites who spent time with Epstein. And if I published it without telling them, I would be out of a job.

UK EV drivers save £540 more on running costs than those in Germany.

Why? Combo of smart meters + flexible tariffs is now widespread in the UK but in its infancy in Germany.

Hmmm…what USAID wasn’t bad for America…what if getting rid of it only hurt us and everyone else?

What if the richest man in the world being responsible for ending aid to the poorest people in the world will go down as one of the most bizarre and disgusting acts of the 21st century?

It’s as if what political scientists researching democratic parties trying to copy and adapt right-wing policies have said for years is true - it doesn’t work.
The Danish Social Democrats are currently on course for their worst election result since at least the Second World War, despite their brand of far-right accommodationism being touted as a blueprint for other centre-left parties.
