One of my greatest convictions and greatest challenges in the tech industry is to avoid ego traps. This industry encourages cultivation of one’s ego by tying traits like self-worth and one’s intelligence to work output. Egotistic mindsets are infectious. But ego kills growth.

Told LBJ to go fuck himself to his face before the Civil Rights Act passed, the first one I knew of referring to the U.S. as the Fourth Reich. RIP

Something negative that the 2016 campaign (or maybe even Obama?) and Twitter have left us is that USians stan politicians now. This results in predictably vibes based critiques or non-critiques that are completely incoherent from all sides.

my hot take is that 99% of men who dump on their exes are losers. I’m willing to accept there are exceptions, but I have not met them yet

Hunter S. Thompson was a good writer who was also an insane drug addict and generations of men in their 20s have destroyed their livers writing extremely boring pastiches as the result of incorrectly inferring some causal relationship there
just read a piece calling Nuzzi a "modern day political version of Hunter S. Thompson" and I think I need to log off

By the way, Jeff Bezos, you fucking pathetic coward: Zohran Mamdani got the pragmatic things he needed to get as a leader without ever submitting to the likes of MBS and disrespecting the memory of Khashoggi and every journalist in America.

Q: Are you affirming that you think President Trump is a fascist?

MAMDANI: I've spoken about--

TRUMP: That's okay. You can just say yes. I don't mind.

Crazy that they were about to get locked up a few years ago. Great that they still can be
It sucks an unreal quantity of ass knowing who these people are, having been to parties where you saw them pitch their company, and know—years in advance—that they are terrible, morally bankrupt people and who, despite years of fucking up and corruption, have still been rewarded immensely for it.

If Musk is tweaking Grok this hard, who's going to invest in xAI?

Its real-time content gleaned from Twitter is the only edge it has in the LMArena. In any other usage category, xAI is irrelevant (so far).

Hard to believe that xAI is trying to raise $15bn at a $230bn valuation right now.

the great thing about Rusts monadic types like Result and Option isn’t that they solves all problems, it’s that it lets you pick your poison ergonomically

a non-panicking runtime error that causes a production outage is also possible to write in rust!
The problem with this is in practice pretty much all prod Rust code contains a significant amount of unwrap because extremely frequently you know an unwrap can't fail but the compiler doesn't. Grep most popular crates for unwrap and you'll find it.

I wonder what Biden thought of Shireen’s murder.
Donald Trump’s Oval Office welcome for Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was quite a display for a man US spies have said was responsible for a murder so shocking that it rendered Saudi Arabia, in Joe Biden’s words, a 'pariah'. But Trump had deals to make: on.ft.com/4o4208r
