It is really difficult to understand what Labour's political strategy is. Steadily alienating core supporters in the hope of winning them back in a few years seems unwise.

There’s an aspect to AI which I think is under considered:
It’s not the ethical issue.
It’s not the sustainability issue.
These are equally troubling - it’s the investor dollar issue.
Investors are pushing the market towards AI to inflate their investments in every aspect.

Real life is not like science fiction, where the power usage required for processing rarely, if ever, factors into the plot.
I still care very much about the ethics of AI usage but I really think its environmental and infrastructural impact desperately needs more exposure.

Rachel de Souza makes the key point here: in the current legislative regime, children have fewer rights than adults. Hitting another adult is assault. But in England, hitting your child is fine, as long as it comprises 'reasonable punishment': which can include hitting that leaves a mark or bruise.
Call me a soft, woke, permissive liberal, but I can't see how it should be legal in any way for an adult to inflict corporal punishment on a child.
Once more, no one seems to have the balls to actually make a decision on this issue - apart from waiting to see how someone else has dealt with it.
