It doesn't answer the critics about him as minority leader. When you're personally less popular than some of the most unpopular Republican leaders in politics, it's time to step aside. Putting someone better in his place isn't going to change the Democrats' Senate prospects for 2026.

He’s a decent man, for a traditional politician. But he’s a terrible spokesperson. He can’t rally support among independents nor Democrats nationwide. Not a wartime “leader” we need. Marc Kelly would make a great Senate leader. Newsom or Andy Beshear make the most sense in ‘28 for actually winning.
