A pile of beach rock, there are many shapes and sizes (including one heart-shaped). These are mostly grey and granite rocks, a permanent part of the shoreline at some local beaches). From the beach to the backyard. A rock garden on a steep slope with rock steps, posts and a rope rail, dry creek beds of rock mostly hidden by greens and bright pinks of creeping thymes and other wildflowers. (A landscaping project at our former residence, created over a number of years).

Dredge Piles informational sign Between 1898 and 1942, miners in the Breckenridge area operated giant dredges, scouring the gulches and river valleys for every last bit of gold. From 1905 to 1922, two dredges operated in French Gulch: the Reliance and Reiling dredges. They were among the most profitable in Breckenridge, recovering an average of $1,000 in gold per week (approximately $100,000 in today's dollars).
