Isn't it about time the other authors of the Cass Report were also named...?

It's a who's who of hate groups and billionaire-funded anti-trans activists.

We detail the names in our latest report.

The majority of the “expert” comments cited in the “peer review” seem to be just as ignorant as the authors about the reality of trans people’s care.

It's a very bad time to be a legitimate book club or reading group hoping to get authors to pop in for a Zoom call or other appearance. The absolute flood of predatory email spam targeting authors means it all goes into the bin.

I think we lost some work because authors were afraid to show their weirdnesses, rough edges, to ask uncomfortable questions.
We can debate all day about who got cancelled and whether or not they deserved it, but one thing I have noticed is that a lot of queer YA written from ~2019-2022 has a kind of sterile after-school-special vibe where you can just tell they sanitized the fuck out of it to appease the Twitter hivemind

What an appalling choice by the publisher to submit gen AI covers for their authors' books to a CONTEST, and I'm glad the awards pushed back against the use of gen AI and disqualified them. Heartbroken for the authors who didn't know, though.

“Why do authors always—“
I’m gonna stop you right there. Because it sells books. Because it sells books! If a large group of authors is consistently doing something, it’s because it works. You can hate whatever it is, but don’t shit on authors for making business decisions.

This is a great appreciation of one of my absolute favorite authors @fotoole.bsky.social
I think I understand, deeply, what goes into this kind of sentence. Research, analysis, craft — this is a sentence where it all meets. This is just masterful.

As a librarian, this makes me very sad. We love inviting authors to our annual community read, but it's become impossible to get in touch with authors thanks to all the spam/scams out there.

I think it's absolutely hilarious that Ben Ryan made me the lede in his story trying to preempt criticism of the wild reveal the HHS report's authors.

More on that later.

But this is absolutely hilarious.

The key point: "many of the authors and reviewers have been outspoken critics of gender-affirming care, are affiliated with anti-LGBTQ+ groups, and have little-to-no experience providing clinical care for young trans people."

There is a book club organization out there emailing authors telling them the club will feature their work for a "modest fee" for "branded materials" etc. Do not fall for this nonsense. You should never, as a writer, have to pay for such things.
