Seems like Dr. Oz has this pull yourself up by your own boostraps mentality about chronic illness that refuses to accept the reality of disability. Some can't survive without support, ever. Society really has a hard time with that. Some honestly won't make it unless a community wants them to.

Living in Sweden since the belly of the Covid pandemic, I find RFK Jr's thinking very familiar. This kind of passive-aggressive pull-yourself-up-by-your-healthy-boostraps philosophy is low-key eugenics, and it's exactly what Anders Tegnell said about Covid. It wasn't good.
The RFK Jr. version of health, where health creates health and healthy people don't get sick and the thing that keeps you healthy is /living the right way/ is very seductive to a lot of people. It also places the burden of illness back on the ill, which decreases the value of human life.

"Pull yourself up by the boostraps" is absurd. But you can, sometimes - with pain and difficulty and determination - pull yourself back together.

There was an old dude in a maga hat struggling to load up some heavy bags of rocks at work today, so I respected his beliefs and let him pull himself up by his boostraps, and I'm sure he was grateful for the opportunity to work (since nobody wants to anymore)
