#FITD
I do think many PbtA and FitD games have trad elements! This is why it’s thorny to conflate game texts with play cultures imo. You can absolutely approach a game with trad sensibilities like WoD from a more storygamer culture and produce an experience like yours no problem!

Based on the DIscord poll results, we're going to have mini-campaigns of Scum & Villainy, Fabula Ultima and D&D. I'm not sure on #4 yet. Monster of the Week is low prep, easy to jump into and easy for me to prep and there is something neat about having 1 d20 game, 1 FITD, 1 PBTA and 1 other.

It's only PBTA if it has sex moves, otherwise it's just sparkling FITD

I know I have at least a few FitD fans following me!
This bundle has some excellent FitD #ttrpg stuff in it including ACTION POTENTIAL which I was lucky enough to be in one of the playtests for, investigating mine safety while (for resdons) sleeved into a xenomorph outfit. Was doing cool two-part character sheets before it was popular, too.

We are entering campaign finale territory, & last session I presented my players with a choice re: their Ur-bot... child?

They had to choose between the path of the Concordiat Knights or the Maelstrom—which gave it a new chasis & a playbook [Mystic or Scoundrel]

Usually FitD or PbtA. Primetime Adventures was a favourite some time ago.
I made my peace a long time ago that I'm a far better improviser or "pantser" than I am planner and prepper.
I ran a bunch of 13Age before COVID though and that required a lot more prep. I may try that again when 2nd ed drops.

Off the top of my head, I would probably go for:

1. Blades in the Dark (and any FitD setting would fit here)
2. Bluebeard's Bride
3. DIE the RPG
4. Viewscream

(I would try to also argue for Corilois: The Great Dark or Alien or Bladerunner too. And Solemn Vale of course).
If you wanted to run say, four different games that weren't Dungeons & Dragons in hopes of showing people the breadth of the TTRPG hobby, what games would you run for them? Assume that they are sort of familiar with 5E.

Ahora estamos jugando Wicked Ones y antes a Band of Blades. La verdad es que le pegamos bastante a los FitD. Pásate por nuestro canal, en breve subiremos las sesiones de Wicked Ones. youtu.be/ZP-y5nCykNU?...

Oooh i never even considered I could choose a class from my own game!! I think for H1VE (my very slow PbtA/FitD wip about insect mecha) I’m probably a Khepri Class or Hemea Class mech

1. Monster of the Week - an intro to PbtA while generally sticking to the "fight monsters" genre
2. Blades in the Dark - an intro to FitD while holding onto the core structures of "adventure/rest"
3. Alice Is Missing - a wild, emotional left turn
4. Kingdom - a GMless game

I have it! FitD isn't my thing but I backed it anyway because I'm glad it exists!

Hang in there for Tribes in the Dark (a FitD) revival of Tribe 8. I've had eyes on it and it's MARVELOUS!

Notably the bar is much lower for interest in a new systems (or new derivatives with interesting angles - PBTA/FiTD) than addendums or a game in a legacy system. I find myself very resistant to try say, a game of a licensed media property, especially if it's just running with d20 or Year:Zero.

Heads up if you're nearly done on a PbtA, FitD, or Fate-based TTRPG and want to look for a publisher!
After a pause, we are once again accepting pitches for games.
If you've designed a TTRPG (especially one built on PbtA, Forged in the Dark, or Fate) that's near-complete, you can find details about how to pitch us (and the services we provide) here:

Long Earth might actually be better as a game a la Portal Knights?
You could probably do FitD or PbtA for Anno Dracula.

It's news to me that Evil Hat even do submissions. I'll be sure to keep that in mind for the FitD book I'm working on.

I hope you guys get some great submissions this time round, I'm a big admirer of you folks.

Evil Hat is one of my favorite publishers. Quality stuff all around, from Don't Rest Your Head to Dresden Files and more. If I did more FitD work, I'd be all over this, but I've got my hands full with the last Cyberrats book and Glorydays.

Hardcaptor Sakuga: Full Metal Petticoat, by ironykins, is a free ttrpg that pulls from various magical girl anime, as well as PbtA, FitD and FATE. It's definitely a labour of love!

I'm very familiar with the fitd, less so the pbta...

What is a fitd and a pbta next
November 29, 2025 at 11:08 AM
Dammit....I don't even like FitD that much....but I'm gonna have to pick this up
Blades '68! It's all go!

Here are some chapter openers I've been working on.
