Everything is in the pics today. I wouldn't consider any of them stupid (not to mention, if they're not classic school smart, they're smart somewhere else imo) but I think Vanya is the smartest of the four.

She showed great potential, curiosity, inteligence and drive to learn, but unsurprisingly, she wasn't able to do much with it as a city elf. Her mother taught her how to fight and defend herself. In her teens, Vanya would skip school more and more often — to work, or rather, to dip her toes in minor crime, pickpocket nobles, pick fights with human boys who thought they were better than her. Only years later, during her research of the Calling, she found her love for studying again. ❤️ Branwyn was homeschooled by her father. They mainly focused on magic and everything surrounding it, but he taught her many other things too. However, she didn't care for those much, she enjoyed the magic practice the most. In that, she was wonderful, in everything else, she was easily distracted and bored. But Malcolm's magic lessons she took very seriously. Left: Fern in DAI Right: Havran in DATV 💚 Fern was mainly taught by her Keeper. For a long time, she was afraid of her magic and what it could do to her if she wasn't good enough, and that kept her back — much to her Keeper's worry. She also studied nature, learned much of both elven and human history, hunted with her brother and learned archery with him. Fern is a quick learner open to trying new things. 💜 Havran, just like Vanya, got some basic education in her alienage, but she was not the golden student in the slightest. She got bored quickly, couldn't sit for extended periods of time and often skipped school too. She enjoyed physical trainings a lot more. She wasn't stupid, she was just not interested.

Frieren makes some interesting commentary on age vs skill. Because, as much as a great mage Frieren is, she still had to work hard to learn and get used to newer spells. Meanwhile, for the much younger Fern, the spells have always been around so she can use them like second nature.
