#Fracking-Gas
13. And this isn't just true of oil. We've also moved from a net importer to a net exporter of natural gas since 2012. (Also because fracking.) Which again means that to take Yglesias' advice in 2025 is to prioritize energy producers over energy consumers.

New research from the University of Pittsburgh suggests that the wastewater created by fracking the Marcellus formation, the ancient gas deposit beneath Pennsylvania, is far more radioactive than previously understood.
Twenty Years Into Fracking, Pennsylvania Has Yet to Reckon With Its Radioactive Waste - Inside Climate News
Former government officials say the state isn’t doing enough to regulate fracking waste, even as new research shows it’s far more radioactive than previously known.

Please remember, when gas prices get this low ( and lower) it becomes cost prohibitive to produce oil in tbe United States. Fracking the oil is expensive. So to sum up, low prices kill the U.S. oil industry.

AI data centers are a special gift from Big Tech to their friends in Big Oil, Gas, & Coal. There will be no state clean energy goals that can survive AI's thirst for fossil fuels.

To Feed Data Centers, Pennsylvania Faces a New Fracking Surge
A rash of data centers planned for western Pennsylvania has residents and environmentalists on edge. The sprawling complexes will be powered by plants that burn fracked natural gas, whose production h...

Pivoting on fracking or more gas = more votes feels very tired and not updated for Zero Sum America.

Would be interesting if it worked. if the Trump admin decided that they were suddenly into net zero, it wouldn’t sway Dem voters either.

Fracking to extract gas is expensive. New pipelines are expensive. Supercooling gas into liquid (LNG) is expensive. LNG tankers are expensive. #Climate disasters are expensive. Solar and batteries are cheap. See the problem with Eby's #LNG schemes? www.pv-magazine.com/2025/12/12/b... #bcpoli
Batteries now cheap enough to make dispatchable solar economically feasible
Energy think tank Ember says utility-scale battery costs have fallen to $65/MWh outside China and the United States, enabling solar power to be delivered when needed.

Less than fun fact
Look at Ohio
See the overlapping circles?
THEY are going to be sucking up aquifer water — used for data center cooling — that’s already at risk due to 25+ years natural gas fracking

#poison
Fun fact. The entire US electricity-generating capacity is 1,190 GW.

Once the new data centers take over control of the power grid, they could decide to black us out to feed themselves!

China is installing ~400 GW of WWS this year v ~40 GW for US, even though the U.S. has a 50% larger GDP than and similar land area as China.

The U.S. has replaced coal largely with gas, including with a million fracking wells, plus some WWS

China has already surpassed US with WWS as a % of demand

Removing the silica sand from aquifers of SE Manitoba would be like cutting the kidneys out of your body.

Sio Silica is based in Calgary. Some sand may be used for high-tech applications, but most of it will be used for fracking. Clean water, or more oil and gas? Which is more valuable?
How Manitoba’s Sio Silica project came to be | The Narwhal
After a decade of local opposition, political scandal and changing plans, the Sio Silica project’s fate is still up in the air

Badenoch scrapping net zero.
Farage promoting fracking & drilling.
Starmer …. anyone’s guess!

Cheap renewable energy is plentiful in UK. A guaranteed, self sufficient supply of solar, wind, hydro power.
No need to use dirty oil & gas (as promoted by Putin agents Farage, Badenoch)!
Save planet!

Still a no from me. ANWR should always be a line in the sand, this piece makes no mention of the serious consequences of fracking, and trying to get oil and gas to pick us is likely a fool's errand unless we stop asking them for any sort of responsibility.

The IEA has called for the UK ban on fracking for shale gas to be lifted, labelling fracking as “the moral and economic choice”.

1/ Whilst fracking the UK was possible under the Tories until Johnson banned it in 2019, it was briefly lifted by Truss in 2022 before being swiftly reinstated by Sunak…
“The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) – the anti-tax, anti-regulation, anti-climate pressure group – received more than £640,000 from oil giants and Murdoch’s UK media empire between 1990-2005, adding to the £122,000 it received from 1967-1989”

We all need to learn what natural gas fracking and Ohio's lax gas & oil waste management/storage are doing to our water.

Experts weigh in Dec. 16 on injection wells in Marietta.

Drill, baby, drill! And who's good at drilling holes and pumping water down them? Oil and gas companies! A lot of geothermal tech is close enough to fracking tech, and it's also another excuse for Trump to give his cronies Federal and Native American land to drill on.

the environmental damage AI causes isn't just in terms of kilowatts per hour or cooling. Most of these data centers are in grids that are fed from coal and gas power plants. The water consumption for fracking, heavy metals released into the environment from both mining and burning, it's heinous

New Yorkers, remember how we forced Gov Cuomo to ban fracking in NYS by making it politically impossible to do it? (And also science.)

And now we have a governor who’s gutting our climate law, building fracked gas pipelines etc?

On Top.

This could have been the US if we had subsidized clean energy as much as we subsidized gas fracking and petroleum production.
Clean electricity is officially growing fast enough in China that the level of fossil generation is falling, even as overall demand rises. They've gotten over the hump.
