I really like your alternative suggestion. I was always pretty turned off by the life/death cycle but I looked at it like weapon durability in BotW: something implemented to encourage diversity. Your system would do just that while encouraging more attachment to all if your companions ^^

Out of all of the game systems I've loved in my life, the Game Boy is probably my favourite. I've spent thousands of hours on mine and have a deep attachment and very fond memories of the system. I still break it out from time to time.

The letter seems to be the best path forward, and given the option of sending in the letter to a physical address, fax, or attachment through client messaging system. So. Messaging system it is. At least, I hope they'll accept it. Certified signed PDFs are allowable, right? God, I hope so.

Much of this trend is also being fabricated by the companies making the consoles and games because they are pushing people towards digital only hardware. For the average person who buys a PS5 now, the system is effectively digital only. Those people are not going to buy the Blu-ray drive attachment.
