"What is your biggest bet about the future of A.I. in five years?"

the only sensible answer is by @melaniemitchell.bsky.social :

"A.I. won't have cured cancer or solved physics. Also, no one will consider the ability to converse fluently a definitive sign of intelligence."
Absolutely incredible shit here

AI won’t have cured cancer because it isn’t a thing with agency and cancer isn’t a single disease but there are a whole lot of drugs in pre-clinical and early clinical stages that have been developed using AI models

I've had personal experience at all ends of this, and I can tell you: the outcome of a biomedical scientist telling people "we've cured cancer" is not neutral curiosity.

And 90% of bad press coverage I've seen began with irresponsible academic communication.

YES, absolutely. "Oh, but this horrible person might cure cancer!" Consider that maybe the child they so abused that said child can't function as an adult could have cured cancer too? You cannot let some what hypothetical maybe-future harm overrule REAL, RIGHT NOW harm.

…like the doctor who just cured pancreatic cancer in mice in Spain. Celebrate progressing our human race past the atrocities and hatred. TikTok showed me that I am the same as the person in Saudi Arabia who hates going to school, or the child in China pranking his dad (p5).

More importantly, if there are a bunch of genius researchers who have been run out of the academy by woke, shouldn’t Liberty have cured cancer?

Many media headlines in the past week about "pancreatic cancer has been cured".

The problem with many outlets, althought not all, is that the scientific paper is often not linked to. This would allow those experienced in reading scientific papers the required context.
