Enjoyed Cuckoo (2024). Wears its influences on its sleeve (Eurohorror in general, Cronenberg, Lynch via Eerie Indiana) and tonally inconsistent, but in the end I found that a positive. And Dan Stevens is a fun film presence - didn’t realise he was in Footlights at the same time as Tim Key! #filmsky

Dawn Breaks Behind the Eyes (dir. Kevin Kopacka, 2021) starts out as Rollin/Franco vibe Eurohorror then abruptly turns into film about group of filmmakers making said Rollin/Franco vibe, film which descends into acid soaked free love post shoot party and...well, just watch it. Highly recommended 💀

Genuinely, quite a fun film. Not Naschy's best, perhaps, but it has some interesting and quite jarringly nasty moments, along with some nice settings and set pieces. If you're into totally bonkers eurohorror movies, you'll like this!

I saw it with a friend back in the 80s and we liked it. In my memory, I would have said it was Italian. I am shocked to discover that it is in fact Canadian (although shot in the US). Definitely a Eurohorror feel. Best of all, it still works for me!

There has never been a genre more horny than Eurohorror in the 60s and 70s and they were never hornier about anything more than Satan.

Love this one. It's one of the reasons I started my podcast and I covered it in my fourth episode. Great kills, genuinely creepy visuals and a superb score, it's as close to a Eurohorror as I've seen.

29. Curse of the Devil (1973)
I enjoy the Eurohorror atmosphere, but it's pretty bog standard werewolf affair. And let's be real, I am not above bog standard werewolf affair, especially not on Halloween.

Of course there's a sort of mad science explanation/plot twist that makes it even more Eurohorror.
I cheered when I went to Bavaria Filmstadt and saw their little shrine to Fedora and other 70s Europudding 'German dentist tax shelter' films.

That's it for my 25 1970s Eurohorror recommendation list! There are plenty of other movies but those were the ones where even if they weren't exactly good, they at least each had some kinda redeeming value imo.

1970s Eurohorror recommendation day #25 Suspiria (1977) This is it, horror master Dario Argento's masterpiece. A young American woman is accepted to a ballet school abroad and as soon as she arrives strange, nightmarish things begin to happen. Is the school really run by witches? Absolutely.

Tomorrow is the last day of the 70s Eurohorror recommendations! Next is going to be "Punk Rock Horror Movies" up until Halloween and I'm going to go into each of them a little more in depth than I did with the Eurohorror, explaining why I think they'd fit on a "punk rock" horror playlist.🎃

1970s Eurohorror recommendation day #24 Zombie (1979) On a cursed island in the Caribbean, the dead rise to feast on the flesh of the living! This is the one where a zombie fights a shark. Great, gory and atmospheric, this is one of the best "Italian Gut Munchers" of the era. A must watch!

I think I've got two more days of 1970s Eurohorror recommendations in me. 25 feels like a good number to stop at. Then it's a short countdown of Punk Rock Horror Movies till Halloween!

1970s Eurohorror recommendation day #23 Daughters of Darkness (1971) An absolutely beautifully shot and atmospheric tale of a newly wed couple who stay at a hotel where they meet the beautiful and enigmatic Countesses Elizabeth Bathory. Name sound familiar? A classic of the Lesbian Vampire genre
