Now there was a fourth car waiting—not the plain white sedan or the flashy red Jaguar or the large, sturdy black SUV, but a jet-black vintage car like one might see in any of the classic movies of opulence like The Great Gatsby. A Rolls Royce, maybe, though Theo wasn’t enough of a car guy to be sure. It didn’t stick out quite as much as the Jaguar, but might as well have for how beautifully it gleamed under the late afternoon sun. Feeling more like a butler than the boyfriend of a rich superstar, Theo swallowed again then made his way down to the fancy restored vehicle, found the keyhole to the trunk then delicately popped it open, feeling as if he were in danger of shattering a Fabergé egg. Only a duffle bag and single purple hardshell suitcase were inside—made sense, since it had only been a two-night trip to visit family. Doubtless the pop star’s amount of luggage for the New Year’s trip they were leaving for on the day after tomorrow would be much more expansive. Shouldering the duffle bag, Theo carefully, so carefully closed the trunk lid again, locked it, then made his way back up the stairs to his grubby little apartment, keeping his eyes downcast rather than risk getting any wide-eyed stares from his neighbors. When he entered, Lysander was stretched out onto the couch as if he owned the place, Rogue once again curled in his lap. Now that Rogue had apparently decided Lysander was safe to be around, he’d jumped to the opposite end of attachment and now had claimed the pop star as his own. The briefest flare of insanity had Theo dropping the bag a little too hard to the ground, startling Rogue into bolting. That was his lap to sit in. screenshot continued: Lysander looked from the bag, then to Theo, then he burst into a cheerful laugh. “What?” “N-nothing,” Theo grumbled, setting the keys onto the counter again with a soft scowl. “H-how many damn cars d-do you have, a-anyway?” The pop star tilted his head consideringly at that, thinking for a moment before he answered, “…Seven?” Theo tried not to let his jaw drop, though he’d expected an answer like that. Well, at least they weren’t yachts. Unless— Before he could ask just how many luxury vessels the pop star did own, Theo’s mouth went dry as Lysander lifted himself from the couch, crossed over to the duffle bag, then bent down to rifle through it, once more displaying that absolutely perfect pair of tight, round shapes pressed together while his thighs flexed from the pose. This time, Theo couldn’t resist any longer. His feet compelled him forward, hands reaching out automatically, and he grabbed hold of either butt cheek as if he were putting his hands about the wheel at the helm of a pirate ship—then squeezed, hard. Lysander yelped but didn’t pull away, tilting his head back to give Theo a teasing, openly beguiling smirk. “What? Are you saying you want to top?”

Eyes flickering towards the door then back to his boyfriend’s face, Theo asked a little shyly, “Um...w-were you…out?” “Oh, just downstairs to the lobby,” the singer answered as he reached for the fridge door and pulled out a sports drink, taking a sip followed by an exaggerated “aaah” sound before he continued, “I was giving them Juniper’s license plate number, so they know to let her in when she comes here before the show next week.” “Juniper’s…” Theo trailed off, his eyes slightly widening. “H-How do you know her l-license plate number?” “I asked her, of course.” The singer slid him a wry smirk before taking another sip from the drink, then set the bottle down on the counter and put his large hands on Theo’s shoulders as if he couldn’t bear to be without physical contact for more than a few minutes at a time. “I gave her my number at your Single release party, and we’ve been texting occasionally since then.” screenshot continued: “You did?” Theo breathed, his astonishment growing even deeper. Did even Siti have Lysander’s number? While Juniper had established herself reliable enough to at least not blab to others that she was friends with someone dating Lysander Delion, it was still quite a big step to trust her with his private phone number…not to mention his home address. “Yes, Theo.” Confusion trickling into his smile, Lysander searched his face briefly, brushing a thumb along Theo’s jaw and tilting him up slightly by the chin. “Why is that so surprising?” “I-It’s just…” Dropping his gaze lower—happening to land on the luxury brand logo, and next to it, the barest shape of Lysander’s left nipple under his shirt—Theo swallowed before he said, “A-aren’t you afraid she might…l-leak it, or something?” “Leak it?” The blonde tilted his head as if he didn’t understand the question, drawing his hands back to hook his thumbs in his jeans pockets, though the pants were tight enough that his whole hands would have struggled to fit inside. “Do you not trust your friends, Theo?” screenshot continued: “I-I do—” Theo hastened to defend them, even though none of them were there to hear their fidelity thrown into question. Grimacing, he amended, “I mean, s-some of them…” Again, Chelsea’s face flashed through his memory, her too-keen smile upon learning who he was dating, though he wouldn’t consider her a friend, exactly. “Well. I’ve met Juniper twice now, and she’s been more than a steadfast friend to you, from what I’ve seen. So yes, I decided to trust her.” Kissing Theo’s forehead, then his cheek, the singer added in a low, affectionate voice, “Your friends are my friends. I don’t ever want you feeling isolated from your friends just because you’re with me.” The polar opposite of Cillian, who had deliberately manipulated him away from any outside associations, the better to control his every action and thought. Feeling a rupture in his chest suddenly, Theo stepped close and put his arms around his lover, squeezing him tightly as he pressed his face against Lysander’s shirt. Uncertainly, the singer’s arms went around him, drawing him closer still, though he waited until Theo had pulled back again to ask him with his brows lightly drawn in concern, “What’s wrong?” “N-nothing,” Theo replied readily, smiling despite the stabbing pain in his chest that was slowly easing. “N-nothing at all.” Stretching on his toes, he kissed Lysander properly at last, fisted his hands in his lover’s golden hair to keep him in position as he crushed lips and thrust his tongue in and explored.

#ArtAdventCalendar Day9 #oilpainting study of one flower from an 1884 #FantinLaTour painting (ref image: www.christies.com/lot/lot-6435... ) I had to refine/adjust some shapes during glazing. This was my first flower apart from a simple Manet bouquet study to start the course.
Tone painting of a half-open rose blossom and surrounding leaves. Rose is tilted partly towards viewer, partly up and to the right corner of small 8x9 inch canvas. Tone painting means a close study of light and shadow, so the whole image is shades of one color, in this case raw umber which is a dark grayish-brown, ranging from dark up to white. The image is somewhat ghostly, because petals and leaves where saturated or strong color will be applied later are reserved in pure white. Brushstrokes are clearly visible, a little thick and clumsy where trying to indicate edges of tightly-furled petals in center of flower that haven't yet opened. Color added to previous painting, some details refined. The rose is now pale pink with hints of yellow, a darker mulberry-red in the shadows. The flower is surrounded by vague shapes of dark green leaves with a few brighter green edges that seem to come forward in the light.The background is a textured brown with some light petal-like shapes indicating other flowers just outside the left and bottom edges of the picture. The words "ENB After Fantin-Latour" have been written a bit awkwardly in dark reddish-brown paint matching the shadows on the rose in the lower right corner.

Chains hovered behind him in a halo of fractal motion, each link whispering promises of what they could do to a body already softened by despair. The Herald tilted his head with a clinician's appreciation. "You endure." Not admiration, not pity - an observation, the way one notes the heart still beating on a dissection table. "Yeah, well," Jayce rasped, wiping blood from his mouth with the back of his hand, "you're not the first monster who's tried to break me." A chain darted forward with a hiss like a struck match, stopping a whisper from his throat. Jayce held absolutely still. The Herald regarded him with something too intent to be indifference. "You misunderstand," he said. "You have been crawling long before I arrived." Jayce's jaw clenched. Something sick and electric twisted in his chest - anger, yes, but also the horrific relief of finally being perceived. Of someone looking directly at the rot inside him instead of pretending it wasn't there. Viktor reached out, touching Jayce's cheek with a fingertip that glowed faintly — gentle, impossibly gentle, considering what he was. Jayce sucked in a breath. "You have survived so much ruin, " Viktor murmured, almost reverent. "You wear grief like armor. You bleed and do not fall. You open doors that should stay shut, not out of hunger, but out of refusal to lie down and die." His hand slid to Jayce's jaw, tilting it upward. "You are a marvel of resistance." The words shouldn't have sounded like praise. Shouldn't have made Jayce's knees tremble.

Photo taken in the evening while I was putting up a holiday tree and decorating it. My hand is visible in the forefront, adjusting the star on top of the tree, and immediately behind that is my gray and white cat, peering through the stair spindles, and he is very happily watching me decorate the tree and make adjustments.
