For my American friends and expats, it would behoove you to know there was a wee bit of corruption in the Prime Ministers election. 🤏

That's what I thought. So clever. I know more about PR than you ever will. I used to live there, still visit frequently, and have a lot of friends on the island. Both expats and people whose families have been there since it was Spain. So spare me. You have no idea what you're talking about.

So have some more cleaning to do. Having a girls night with other expats girls from the building. I'm a little shocked I can make friends that want to hang with me. 🥺

I once attended a party in Perth where it became my lot to keep up with the flow of conversation, and alcohol, with the homeowner and his friends, all English speaking expats from England, Scotland, South Africa, and Indonesia.

Shorter - six drunks seperated by a common language.

I did not expect to enjoy this one as much as I did! At first the "disenchanted expats" of it all irritated me, but when it stopped being a story about a teenager's infatuation with Dick Diver and became a story about Dick Diver being a drunk loser with no friends, I was hooked. Cause fuck that guy.

And I already know some other expats, plus I've got a few local friends and those friendships really go a long way in Germany. I hope we can do something if it becomes an emergency.

I find it hard to talk w/ my foreign friends or expats. Fundamentally, the response is "Are all you people effing nuts?"

They're creatives in the tech industry and stifle when they go back home to find their friends in comfortable stasis with their families, and they're desperate to breathe when they get to the departures terminal and reclaim their "freedom" as expats with perfectly curated aesthetic lives.

Who don’t understand what’s happening like my 2 friends who moved to Portugal.

Dems will be safe nowhere and countries that hate America will expand their hate to local expats.

I’ve had friends who lived in East Germany, in Hong Kong before & after the handover to China, in Romania under Ceausescu & a number of Russians, both expats & living under Russian government, plus a friend in Tehran. I hope she’s still alive. 💔 Preserve democracy & the rule of law in the USA.

Fortunately, I do have friends in foreign lands, and a couple of expats. It's been discussed. Even a kid from Paris, now an attorney, I hosted for a summer is worried if I'm OK just this week. Their minds are blown. He can't even reconcile the America he saw and what it is now. He's worried for me.

Thank you for your continued courage - expats like me (especially coming from the deep south, living abroad) don't stop voting & still trying to convince GOP family & friends to 'wake up' 💙
We are now in a full-blown constitutional crisis.

That’s why following the arrests of Don Lemon and Georgia Fort, I sent three separate letters demanding the dismissal of all charges, a congressional hearing, and a DOJ Inspector General investigation.

Friends moved to HK & boasted abt having live-in maid. Her room was literally a closet w/bed on floor. They tried convincing me how grateful & happy she was bc she lived well & was able to give $ to her family. These well-off expats refused to see this poor women’s only choice was closet or nothing.

Yes, and when you’re not wherever that is you have the shared experience of being Not Where You Came From, plus a pressing need to find a new community. Which is generally why expats tend to make friends with others.

It’s the same dynamic as students vs everyone else in student cities.

I have friends there, Porto and south of Lisbon - Sesimbra. We’ve gone several times. Most recently in October. Expats are pushing prices up and well aware of the backlash. It may have peaked as an expat escape. Still a bargain, but not as inexpensive as it once was.

As someone who live part time in Spain… YES! I’ve had many an argument and lost many “friends” when I correct people who call themselves expats.

I have even told American friends who are expats that now is not the time to come back for a visit. Even if they are natural born American citizens.
If you’re thinking of going to the US for holiday, World Cup or business, you need to think again.

This is our home, I have family and friends here that won't move. Hate what it has become, but we have so much good here that orange asshole will never take from us.

I think folks would do better not to run from this. But I do understand the more vulnerable of us becoming expats.

For all of their embrace of elitism, monarchists aren’t very sophisticated.

So what’s everybody’s escape plan? If the election is called off, I’m going to follow my friends who are living in SE Asia as expats. Being single with no kids makes the move easy but also that’s a huge RED FLAG when a middle aged man moves to Bangkok alone…everyone will be secretly judging you.

I really want this place to work. I had a lot of fun on here for a few months when it just felt like I could find my old friends and shoot the shit about whatever in relative peace.

Then Discover became popular, Resist Twitter expats became the dominant voices, and it all became way less enjoyable

A good chunk of that is venezuelan expats hoping it leads to democracy. When reality sets in that actually trump buttressed chavismo in exchange for his friends getting a taste this number will dwindle.
January 6, 2026 at 4:17 PM
Has anyone asked the Venezuelan refugees and expats in Miami what prison, or insane asylum they came from? Start with the family and friends of Trump supporters in Florida
January 6, 2026 at 2:44 AM
The problem is this high will go away once the expats start hearing about the crackdown on opposition people back home and trump doing jack shit about it because delcy let a few of donalds friends have a taste of the oil sector.
