Library patron, looking directly at me: I haven't seen Elliott in AGES! Do you know where she went?

Sir, she grew out her hair and became unrecognizable, apparently.

or, for the same affect, just give your loved ones a card that says "I don't know you or think about you or care to understand you" and then pour 12 gallons of water onto concrete

I have been supported by so many wonderful editors throughout my career, but have to shout out @jensookfonglee.bsky.social especially for being an absolute story wizard!
By the way, it's National Editor Appreciation Day.

Nobody ever reads a great article and thinks, "Dang, that was some tight editing." But editing is a big part of how it got to be great.

So writers, if you've ever worked with a good editor, shout 'em out.

Buy Peter’s festive book!
How To Restore a Timeline is a holiday story about violence and memory. It takes place on a special variant of December 27, 2006—one that never ends, overlapping and consuming all time that dares come after.
And I hear it makes a great gift, available everywhere you buy books.

The Missus occasionally works overnights at the hospital, and when she gets ready to leave our cat sits in the hallway and gazes at her with such naked hurt in his eyes because now it's gonna be JUST ONE MOM ALL NIGHT and that means he is BASICALLY AN ORPHAN with the HARDEST LIFE IN THE WHOLE WORLD.

The Man Who Invented Christmas continues a time-honoured tradition in movies about writers by implying that everything in A Christmas Carol is something Dickens saw or heard in real life.

(Christopher Plummer is a hell of a Scrooge, though.)

Ah, the problem is not that we fail to provide everyone with adequate housing or services for people with addiction, the *real problem* is that the rest of us are forced to see the results of these things, under the label "social decay". Got it.
"The longer visible signs of social decay are allowed to fester, the more inclined those with means will be to simply check out ... leaving those without the ability to relocate to deal with playgrounds littered with drug paraphernalia." www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/arti...

have you ever posted so bad that the Supreme Court of Canada told you to go to therapy and then the province of Alberta made a whole law about how you have to be allowed to post that bad?

This week, I withdrew from a speaking engagement at a public university because they sent me a list of prohibited “words & concepts.” I will not humor this censorship. It does a disservice to the stories I’m discussing & the audience, who deserve unfettered access to information & conversation.

It is Transgender Day of Remembrance and I am thinking about my sister Cael, who died by suicide in 2022.

She made the choice she made for many reasons, but one of the strongest factors was how brutally she was treated by the world as a trans woman.

I miss her very much. I wish she was still here.

An incident in a locker room has always been key to Riley Gaines’ anti-trans fame.

But @msjpauly.bsky.social spoke to swimmers who were present at the same 2022 meet. They shared a very different narrative.
How right-wing superstar Riley Gaines built an anti-trans empire
The swimmer tied a trans woman for fifth. The MAGA industrial complex took care of the rest.
