Like, wanna read something that you could take a lot of transhumanism from? Go read Sophie Strand's autobiography and the way she worked through her degenerative disease, or Morton's Hyperobjects, or Kohn's How Forests Think

Absolutely! I was sad we couldn't hear the hyperobjects follow-up talk you submitted to Outlier this year. Maybe sometime in the near future we can find a way for you to give that talk to DVS. :)

"Gender, class, revolution, cloning, cycles of revenge, how we die—those are just some of the primal hyperobjects Churchill has dissected in language as clear and cutting as a glass scalpel..."

Strand's book was great. I think I wanna step back from my inquest on ecology after a couple more pending titles tho. I'll prolly reread Hyperobjects and take a jab at Tolstoy

My series on Youtubers is back from the dead like Lazarus. Joe (Pause & Select) and I dance, cry and heal together. We talk anime, hyperobjects, platforms, and why videogame criticism makes you [materially] poor.
Pause & Select Vs. Aguas’ Points: Cultural Studies Media Mix Sing Along
I’ve seen my fair share of people call me pretentious. I just got a comment twenty minutes ago on Twitter right before this conversation. I get my fair share of “the language is pretent…

If you want to get into the end game of thinking about everything as systems (even the systems), welcome to hell. Hyperobjects, geometrical shapes that you can only perceive a projection of cast onto your 3D space, are a very good name for emergent systems, their properties, and how to study them.
At the End of the World, It’s Hyperobjects All the Way Down
Do you feel lost? Alone? Powerless in the face of forces beyond your control? Timothy Morton can help—if you’re ready to have your reality blown apart.

The philosopher Timothy Morton has developed a concept called hyperobjects . It defines as objects so massively distributed in space and time as to defy holding a specific location in either space from the vantage point of humans. An example is climate change.

Also goes to issues of hyperobjects, like the climate crisis, things being of such a scale that we fail to fully comprehend their scope.

Niceeee! Ones that stand out to me as intriguing: The Chaos Protocols, Ways of the Ant, 101 Games for Groups, Secret Games of the Gods

Also on my list to read: TechGnosis, Hyperobjects, House of Leaves

Hyperobjects cannot be reduced.

BUT

Collective sensemaking can be increased.

One of the fun things about trying to address something massive is that people will pick the one thing you're using as an example to be representative of the whole and miss pretty much the entire picture as a consequence. hyperobjects suck
January 12, 2025 at 8:57 AM
each situation they reference is one that mirrors the present one, in which they want something similar to occur now

so, why the fuck am i on about this?

well, i think i have to introduce hyperobjects from object oriented philosophy for this (which, amusingly, is very darmok and jalad at tanagra)

It’s important to express your ideas in as many ways as possible—it benefits your own clarity. Resorting to shorthands and names of hyperobjects too much atrophies your understanding in favor of the dopamine hit of invoking those names. In particular, crucial concepts like racism, ableism, and such.

"High Dimensional Data Narrative" by I. Radu, S. El-Zeftawy, N. Cervello and V. A. Rodrìguez is a dazzling data sculpture inspired by the Wizard of Oz and @the_eco_thought's "Hyperobjects". An intriguing take on multidimensionality and knotty objects. http://vimeo.com/325665708
