repost this if you could handle suddenly getting 800 likes on your tiny writing account without instantly falling into an addiction loop that leaves you shamelessly clamoring for attention and validation, thus corrupting your artistic process

I agree. Most SM algorithms were engineered for addiction.

But they didn't behave that way at the beginning. Bluesky is much more like the beginning.

And we should be grateful for that.

Meta is an obscene roller coaster. Reinforcing dependency & addiction on purpose.

I've been watching $META; Meta feels like gallery hype-glossy AI demos mask ad rot, teen pullback and looming regulator suits. As a quantatative sceptic I question ad efficency. https://www.mlex.com/articles/2425569/us-children-sue-meta-google-snap-tiktok-in-addiction-litigation

which I originally, wrongly assumed was a well researched meta-fiction but I've been told was not intended as such.

Only gonna get worse with AI slop.
Twitter going nazi and also seeing a degradation in its product has showed me that social media addiction is really powerful, so Meta is gonna get a lot of money out of AI I think. Investing in it feels icky though

It’s a social media addiction I think, not willing to give it up. I will close my account in a heartbeat before I give them personal details.
Meta is just the first one to come to mind… there are so many others.

If you still use Meta products, just admit you have an self harming addiction.
I dumped Facebook back in 2015. It was discovered that "META" provided Russia election rich data via Cambridge Analytics. Russians used that data to target voters and get Trump elected. Fancy Bear a Russian hacker group hacked the DNC emails in 2015. FCK FACEBOOK

Massachusetts in lawsuit arguing that Meta designed features on Facebook and Instagram to make them addictive to young users.
“We are making claims based on the tools that Meta has developed because its own research shows they encourage addiction to the platform,” said State Solicitor David Kravitz

We're in an era where "social" feeds largely function not as a way to connect with humans, but a place to find commerce-related content. Pew found that 62 percent of adults on TikTok are there to find product recommendations or reviews. Even "educational" content tends to morph into a commercial

Media not covering enough bcndp's latest involuntary treatment is a red herring to distract public that #bcndp refuses to properly fund:

1. Prevention like #MandatoryCMECoursesOnADHD for ALL BC doctors

20-40%+ of SUD have ADHD, but ADHD diagnosis & ADHD meds reduce SUD

2 Vol treatment

Thanks. Good piece. Too bad no mention of BC govt refusal to follow 2nd of Vancouver 4 pillar drug policy, prevention.

20-40%+ of people with SUD have ADHD

27% of homeless people

21-45% of prisoners

A nightmare to get a competent diagnosis of ADHD in BC
IF diagnosed & medicated? Reduces SUD

MA makes a big deal about not trying to hold Meta liable for "the content of the content". I think @thefireorg.bsky.social is correct in saying that in fact, they are doing that.

How do you break addiction? We're all addicted to the audience size and reach available through Meta platforms. But to break addiction without a true willingness to do the work to change... you have to take the cause away completely, or regulate it harshly.

My take on the whole Reze porn actress thing is that I kind of hope that it is true, because it would add a level of meta comedy that Fujimoto writes a story about a guy having to deal with his crippling sex addiction and then basing one of his love interests off a porn actress he once saw.

Delete all of the enshittified platforms. The excuses people make for keeping Meta products and TikTok make people sound like they’re kicking a meth addiction. You’re the product.
Delete your Twitter account. That platform is built for right wing propaganda and harassment and that's it.
I wrote about the fake account blowup on X this weekend. A genuine post-truth nightmare and proof that these companies have polluted their platforms so thoroughly and traded reality for profit that they've undermined the very idea of what the internet is supposed to be.
