I'm loving this philosophical and neuroscientific exploration of play, uncertainty, learning and more.

@jdkiverstein.bsky.social backs up my conclusion that the surprise-minimisation principle in the predictive processing approach is useful, but a little off: we often enjoy *just enough* surprise!
Algorithms don't play & animals only play when they feel safe. ❤️ Ep 65 with Julian Kiverstein (Amsterdam Medical) looks at how play relates to surprise, risk, & our capacity to handle uncertainty. So sad when even RACGP jump on the bandwagon of unscientific covid minimisation (yes, I know they’ve been there for ages)
Misleading framing in the headline, trying to minimise COVID-19 deaths. They carefully picked the first and only month since 2023 where that was true.

I don't think there's any harm minimisation in the medium to long term.

Clear evidence of the minimisation of racially motivated terrorism. And people will still say it isn't an issue.
Wow - those are quite phenomenal headlines given the details of the story.

Ahh look, he’s just a ‘nerdy’ guy. No harm done.

You need to scroll down to paragraph 13 of the Sky piece to find the full story!

Minimisation of the day:

OH: I spilled some water in the bathroom. I've mopped it up but the floor is still damp.
vs
Reality: I've flooded the bathroom. I've mopped most of it up but there's still standing water in places.

"thousands" is a profound minimisation - i've seen "tens of thousands" elsewhere

the order of magnitude you're looking for is "millions"

Yep... There's smoke bullshit and minimisation...

But got cannot fake the metrics
In reading this paper, I get the distinct impression that the researchers are trying to frame all of the PCC issues as "caused by lockdown" or "caused by anxiety". Weirdly, I am reading this study as minimizing COVID *the virus*. Lots of focus on mental health and anxiety. Do you see any of that?

Many good studies show physiological and SARS-CoV-2-strengthened immunity after C19. Antibodies last long, T cells persist, and vaccines work. But that doesn’t fit the doom narrative, so those results are ignored, or worse, smeared as “minimisation.”

Just spent another three hours in the garden despite my prediction of a rest day. Another bed weeded, paper laid for weed minimisation and soil added ready for seed. Still have to plant some pink pups. I think they’re white but they’re my hometown flower so no matter. #runningtolife

Disgusting comments from the Deputy Premier just days after kids died from tainted pills.

Victoria, NSW and ACT are all exploring pill testing because it’s a proven and safe harm minimisation programme that saves hundreds of young people’s lives.
Queensland Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie asked yesterday about young people's drug use ahead of schoolies, via Courtney Kruk

"Only the commies in Victoria support pill testing. They are illegal for a reason – they kill you."
Dangerous drug alert issued after second Queensland death in a week
As Schoolies and festival season approach, experts fear the proliferation of synthetic opioids will claim more lives.

The social media age ban may actually mean more people have more data collected about them - it means the risk from hacks and leaks may increase and goes against 'data minimisation' principles according to @drwaus.bsky.social

"A key ingredient in that effort will be the whitewashing of their own role in the story. The months—years—of silence. Of minimisation. Of refusing to condemn. Of refusing to sanction. Of refusing to admit the charge of genocide. Of refusing to even say the word genocide. Of their own complicity."

Covid minimisation has been a huge trend in the NHS since 2021, and this failure to boost vulnerable people seems to us to be another example of Covid minimising.
