Also he misunderstands why NWSLPA is objecting to the new HIP rule
January 30, 2026 at 5:07 PM
Will the League and the NWSLPA reavh an accord on HIP to able to sign their own Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
January 30, 2026 at 4:21 AM
Players are getting to go pro younger and younger, yes. All of those stars played their asses off for years, never getting anything back. I'm very glad for what the NWSLPA did on many fronts, & Liv's success with the lawsuit also changed everything. (& eventually will apply in WBB too, I think.)
January 29, 2026 at 5:27 PM
The article also implies that the NWSLPA is against the rule because it creates a two-tiered system, implying that the higher rate of pay is the issue. The PA have been *clear* that it's not against higher pay for great players. It's against the arbitrary *metrics* used to determine this pay.
January 29, 2026 at 3:28 PM
FYI for context — this is what the NWSLPA refers to as a roster classification.

A contrast to the league wanting to add HIP as a classification alongside STIRP, NTRP, SEI, D45, etc.
Inbox: Washington Spirit sign defenders Madison Haugen and Molly Skurcenski to short-term injury replacement contracts.

No details on who they would be replacing, but the Spirit to my knowledge still have Andi Sullivan, Ashley Hatch, & Casey Krueger on their SEI list.

FYI I was curious bc I hadn't heard of the brand before so I went to their website and boy does it look like ICE picked the wrong town. The apparel manufacturer is a union shop that makes the only official USA-made gear for the NWSLPA and sells shirts like this americanrootswear.com/products/sta...
January 27, 2026 at 3:30 AM
Allegedly the NWSLPA finally said something about ICE, per @premthakker.bsky.social
Although it wasn't here or on Twitter, so I don't know where this was announced. Nothing from @meghannburke.bsky.social either.
January 27, 2026 at 12:55 AM
I don't believe NWSLPA has, unless you have a statement they have not posted publicly.

But here are two players who have:

bsky.app/profile/roey...
Mandy McGlynn, Utah's keeper and a US national team player, has been posting anti-ICE messages and protests.

Bella Bixby from Portland is doing the same on her feed.

If we get through this, it will be because of the helpers... and apparently also the goalkeepers!
Mandy McGlynn, I owe you an apology: I was not familiar with your game
January 27, 2026 at 12:43 AM
Where did the NWSLPA say anything? Not here, and not on Twitter.
January 27, 2026 at 12:38 AM
I also found it interesting that the NWSLPA is not for abolishing the salary cap.

It wants the cap raised, obviously, but it doesn’t want the cap scrapped entirely:
Though Trinity Rodman’s contract saga is over, the controversy over the NWSL’s High Impact Player rule is far from settled.

I spoke today with commissioner Jessica Berman and NWSL Players Association chief executive Meghann Burke, and many words resulted:

www.inquirer.com/soccer/nwsl-...
Amid controversy, the NWSL stands firm on the High Impact Player rule
Commissioner Jessica Berman says the rule puts "clubs in a position to compete financially." The players' union isn't happy, though.

I get that these negotiations are serious business but how do Meghann and the NWSLPA reps not leave every meeting with Berman and not just be flabbergasted at how detached from reality she is. I personally wouldn't be able to.

Just out of curiosity, when does a "story" crossover into a "saga"?
And does this story meet the requirements for a "saga"?
😕😉

Trinity Rodman contract saga ends with record Spirit deal
United States forward Trinity Rodman signed a record three-year contract with the Washington Spirit on Thursday to remain at the club, ending months-long uncertainty over the star's future.

It's funny. Trinity Rodman's signing is the least interesting part of this story. The NWSL's struggle to compete in the global soccer market is the truly fascinating saga to follow.

I spoke with #NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman about recent events around Trinity Rodman, the High Impact Player rule, NWSLPA grievances. Also includes some news on how the HIP $ increases YOY.

NWSL's Berman: Rodman deal is proof of concept for HIP rule
NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman cited Trinity Rodman's new deal as evidence that the league's new High Impact Player is working as intended: to retain and attract top players.

Tori Huster just said she follows the spirit squadron and appreciates all of our posts in support of the NWSLPA 🥹
January 23, 2026 at 4:52 PM
so #NWSL creates problematic hip rule instead of smart salary cap reform, Spirit utilizes rule to sign Rodman (which is all NWSL cared about to avoid a huge pr disaster had she left) When the hip rule is likely voided due to NWSLPA grievance, league will shrug bc Spirit already paid Rodman... 🧐😳
January 23, 2026 at 5:42 AM
So if the NWSLPA successfully sues the league and wins that the HIP rule is illegal then what happens? Washington gets punished for being over the cap?
January 23, 2026 at 1:42 AM
If I were the NWSLPA, I’d be pissed. This contract kind of undermines their whole grievance of the HIP rule.

Like, yeah, a contract is a contract. But it also swipes one leg out from under the PAs grievance that this rule is incredibly biased.
Spirit owner Michele Kang and president of soccer ops Haley Carter confirm the #NWSL's new High Impact Player rule was utilized for this contract.

Carter on whether the NWSLPA's grievance would alter the contract: "A contract's a contract." (In short, no. Grievance(s) are still pending.)
OFFICIAL: #USWNT forward Trinity Rodman has signed a new, 3-year contract with the Washington Spirit.

Per Mike Senkowski, Rodman’s agent, her new multi-million dollar contract will make her the highest-paid female soccer player in the world.

the Washington Spirit confirmed that Trinity Rodman's new deal benefitted from the #NWSL's new HIP rule, with the asterisk that there's a grievance from the NWSLPA that's still pending on that front

my thoughts on what this means for the league and the sport

Haley Carter mentions that the ongoing grievance between the NWSLPA & league meant that the Spirit & league Board of Governors had to "think of creative ways" to keep stars in the league.

No further detail at this point on that front.
January 22, 2026 at 11:41 PM
Haley Carter: "The need to think creatively about developing solutions that will enable the NWSL to retain and attract world-class talent."

Leaves the grievance to be worked out by the league and the NWSLPA.

If you were expecting her to call to raise the cap, she's on stage with her boss...
January 22, 2026 at 11:40 PM
just thinking about how the NWSL decided to institute the HIP rule last minute and now our team is in limbo right before preseason, and the NWSLPA solution to just raise the cap by $1m is somehow unacceptable to them
January 16, 2026 at 8:15 PM
NWSLPA executive director Meghann Burke on the just-released 2026 schedule and whether last year’s complaints, particularly around scheduling kick-offs during peak temperatures in summer, seem to have been taken into consideration.

Sarah Spain’s podcast interview with Meghan Burke indicated that the NWSLPA already has been in touch with The League about some issues with the new schedule. I’m sure those problems will be fixed ASAP.
