Actually I, a dedicated White Tower Journal reader, am fully behind Denethor's moderate palantir usage and proposals to cut Osgiliath defence funding to balance the budget. Far more sensible than Aragorn's radical Sauron defunding proposals.

the films are great, but some of the choices he made drag the moral arc of the story down

like maybe we can save the money and time we spent on the elves at helm’s deep, faramir et. al. at osgiliath, and Sam being sent away by Frodo (misdirected as a fickle waif) and use that for the scouring

It was a real blow to Rome when the Turks invaded Constantino—I mean, it was a real blow to Minas Tirith when orcs from Mordor invaded Osgiliath.

#Tolkientober day 10: vessel

“The River had taken Boromir son of Denethor, […] it long was said that the elven-boat rode the falls and the foaming pool, and bore him down through Osgiliath, and past the many mouths of Anduin, out into the Great Sea at night under the stars.”

Sauron is bucking tradition and legal precedent in pushing to deploy the Morgul-host to Free People-led cities like Helm's Deep, Osgiliath, and Minas Tirith due to what he says is rampant crime and to support his crackdown on the heirs of Dúnedain.

If Mordor doesn’t give Osgiliath back to those that built it, the Kingdom of Gondor, BAD THINGS ARE GOING TO HAPPEN!!! Lord Denethor

While it is lovely to be back in Minas Tirith in our quarters with all of our comforts I do miss our little camp site in Osgiliath. *sighs* As for pigeons, our own refused to deliver a message to my parents unless it ate its weight in seed first. 😒

If you haven't seen Donato Giancola's art, it is truly incredible. This painting of Faramir at Osgiliath is practically iconography.

I always wondered whether WETA's orcs had some conscious nods to other film goblins and critters. Gothmog's elephant man homage seems pretty straightforward but it always seemed to me that the snaga closeup in Faramir's charge on Osgiliath had at least a family resemblance to Blix from Legend.

No, I in fact was not yelling at my TV during Denethor’s berating of Faramir after the 2nd fall of Osgiliath. Faramir did all he could.
