Luckily, I just picked up a good potato ricer.

The amount of butter used and the smoothness of the finished product. Also, you don't add milk to it. I don't use a masher either. I put the potatoes through a potato ricer instead, because you don't get any lumps.

Method
Peel and quarter the potatoes and cook in boiling water until soft, about 10 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon, reserving the cooking water. Mash until completely smooth or pass through a potato ricer. Set aside to cool.

Finely chop the rosemary, you need about 1 tablespoon.

We've reached Saturday, & I could still use a warm cup of Soup. @joyofcooking.bsky.social 1975s Potato Soup might just be what I'm looking for. I bet most of these ingredients are already in the kitchen. Who's willing to try whipping this version up? 🍽️ 🍜 #FoodSky #Cooking #Recipes #RecipeOfTheDay

My Italian grandmother, great-grandmother, and great aunt taught me to make them with a ricer. Definitely the best way.

Some people like a chunky mash but I see no reason to fuck with a mashed potato made with anything less than a ricer or a food mill.

Besides, a regular masher mostly exists to get awkwardly stuck when you open a drawer.

Can confirm, it's a pain in the ass but a ricer produces SUBLIME mashed potatoes.
team I used my new potato ricer for the first time, and I AM NEVER GOING BACK this mash is so light, fluffy & delicate it's like a puffy cumulus cloud drifting over a perfectly still lake

May i suggest boiling some other items with your potatoes? a small onion, some garlic, a bit of a more colorful root. any textures that don't get totally smooth don't make it through the ricer.

My favourite Xmas gifts this year were a spice grinder, a potato ricer, and this pair of slippers that just put me into a mode.
Like, they have memory pillow soles, fuzzy, high ankle coverage.
Oooh, black pudding too, and a really nice set of kitchen tools.
