Just FYI, I also consider myself a leftie, just one who grew up in rural Appalachia getting much of the protein in my diet from my wild meat (yes including deer struck by cars). I'm all too familiar with the way the middle and upper class liberals use my background as a shorthand for undesirable.

Is Een shorthand for estrogen or a typo because I'd love Een as shorthand for E.

"Putin's party's propaganda" surely? Or is it okay for everyone except the US to get the national shorthand?

Long before apps, the hanky code lived in back pockets. It was a color-coded shorthand that helped queer men find one another and became a defining part of leather -- and LGBTQ -- culture.
The History of the Hanky Code
Once a discreet language of desire, the hanky code has evolved into a lasting symbol of queer identity and culture.

I can confirm it, broken for me too (and I noticed it in one of my demos this week too, but then I was just too stressed and pissed and chose to move the font shorthand including the line-height on the parent just to get things working again).

Im not sure if people just dont get what "shorthand" is or they've never seen very many western cartoons that have more overt and loving anime references that arent just a very obvious generic parody of anime stylization in an already stylized art style. Its about communication to the audience.
I don’t love that american animation is still doing kappa mikey faces when something is “anime inspired”

it feels like we internalized the whole “anime art isn’t real art” and never committed to learning more beyond a surface level or still on some level think it’s not real

Aye, their lists are all encoded in shorthand to evade moderation while they leave screenshots of individual people up on their page for the network to drag

Blocked as soon as I mentioned looking at their page, likely to prevent me reporting more of their feed

Not that it stopped me lol

So I did finish #HeatedRivalry, and I did find eps 5&6 more enjoyable than the first 4. I just don't seem to be as taken with it as most of my TL. (Sorry?)

Also "HR" is entirely valid shorthand, but as a Human Resources professional my subconscious does a jump scare every time I see it 🫣

Apologies for the shorthand. I meant a cult of personality that oversees complete state level control over the economy with little market freedoms, combined with social engineering through media and the brutal suppression of dissent.

Hi. I'd like to ask a question, if I may.
Is "AuDHD" shorthand for someone with autism and ADHD. Sorry if it seems like a stupid question. I've got a son, age 11, recently diagnosed with both and I'm wondering if the term you use means that, or something else that I'm not familiar with.

I think shorthand because I've seen some do yellow or white clouds too.

But that's hard to say because it may be one of those things where a shorthand gets used so frequently that it sort of surplants things.

Are fart fetishists specifically turned on by visible clouds of lime-green gas, or are they just using that normally as a cartoon shorthand?

Aye it may be overused. But it's still effective shorthand, Whoever is referenced doesn't really matter.

One of my goals is that in the near future Bari Weiss's name will be used in derision as shorthand for pathetically arrogant incompetence, like "New Coke." Like you'll have a new boss at work who's totally out of their depth and you'll say "looks like we've got a Bari Weiss" and people will laugh.

Semanticly I agree, but I think folk deserve a pass when in the heat of the moment like this.

Or maybe we can give it the grace of being shorthand for "This is not what I believe America should be" or something like that.

Just my $0.02.

it's been a year since i rewatched the whole thing and still shaken by just how much better The Return is than Twin Peaks. very hard to compare them though obviously because the "it's like a different show" shorthand falls apart immediately

American media obsessed with those characters cuz they've become a shorthand for 'uptight, strict, repressed, badass'

Ok make a vampire..... like..... put some thought into it.
