A post on keeping old blog posts alive, following the news that the British Library is having to come up with a solution for all of its past blogs, following the collapse of the Typepad platform lukemckernan.com/2025/11/11/k...
Keeping posts going
Pity the poor British Library, an institution which simultaneously does such great things, yet at the same time seems to have utterly lost its way. The cyberattack of 2023 has created damage not on…

Preparing for a talk on political uses of Confucianism and went back to the old blog for ideas. I moved The Useless Tree archive to Wordpress after the closure of Typepad. Haven't attended to formatting and visuals, but here's an old post that's on my mind again:

Just how Confucian was the Han Dynasty? And what does that suggest for today’s Confucian revival?
It is generally understood that, following the Qin repression, Confucianism was revived and given government sponsorship under the Han Dynasty.  The conventional wisdom goes something like thi…

Don't know if anyone else has noticed but brainygamer.com was hosted via Typepad which went under and erased all blogs hosted there last month. Emailed Michael about three weeks ago to see if he knew and no response. Sad to see an influential blog disappear save for images on archive.org.

It’ll be back soon, if only as a static site so the links don’t break. TypePad, the blog host shut down with only a few weeks warning. Read the story of the rescue operation here: medium.com/@gcordidoa/m...

Typepad went down 2 weeks ago. I downloaded my blog, so I have it, but for the rest of the world it is gone.

Thank you for this. Typepad just shut down and with it went two old blogs of mine, and it made me sad thinking about the initial satisfaction of blogging and discovering other bloggers.

I would've followed lyz to typepad, so this is a no-brainer.
It’s time, beyond time, really, I’m leaving Substack. I didn’t do it before because I had no other income to rely on. I don’t think abandoning spaces is always the right answer but sometimes it’s necessary www.patreon.com/posts/why-i-...

with the deletion of typepad, artist Theresa Duncan's blog, The Wit of the Staircase is gone. I made a full copy of it years ago, but never needed to upload it. It's now at the Internet Archive, too, so maybe my website collecting efforts are redundant now web.archive.org/web/20160214...

One of the notable #childlit #blogs of the early #blogging years has disappeared from the Internet. Yes, it was on Typepad, which is no more. I managed to get a copy of a conversation I had there with the #blogger, Jen Robinson. blog.gailgauthier.com/2025/10/stil...

As you may or may not know, the host of our website,
Typepad shut down tonight (September 30).

WordPress accidentally deleted our new website & archive the day before we were set to launch (Monday).

Sorry for the current technical difficulties as we work on our relaunch ASAP. Thanks! <3

Typepad shuts down today. The homepage doesn't even mention it and says it's a reliable platform.

By complete coincidence, because it's a Typepad blog (going out of business), today is the last day to access the Best American Poetry blog.

Here's Lehman, just a few weeks ago, rehashing his grievances about the Bloom volume.

In Retrospect: Dan Chiasson's take Harold Bloom's "Best of the Best"
When The Best of the Best American Poetry, 1988-1997 came out in Spring 1998, it caused a critical firestorm with much hysteria on the part of reviewers offended not by the poems guest editor Harold B...

The personal blog I wrote for 15 years will vanish tomorrow, due to the shutdown of @typepad. It included travel narratives and essays on cities, books, and plants. For a few more hours, it's here: urbanist.typepad.com

Downloading it now, deciding what to save.
