And trans and gender-diverse adults who had access to puberty blockers have a lower lifetime risk of suicide, says Dr. Goepferd w/ Children’s MN

I've been having a REALLY rough week, and I broke glass on one of my emergency books -- the very last Blessings book. I don't know if I'll ever be ready to leave Henry Adams, but I needed the big cry it gave me.

How did we get lucky enough to be readers in the time of THE Beverly Jenkins?

As someone who loves the Caribbean I’ve been watching this ramp up and it’s terrible.
The pilot of a JetBlue flight reported on Friday that he narrowly avoided colliding with a U.S. military aircraft over the Caribbean after an Air Force refueling tanker passed in front of the commercial plane without broadcasting its position, according to air traffic control radio communications.
U.S. Military Plane and JetBlue Flight Nearly Collided Over Caribbean, Radio Traffic Shows
The Air Force refueling tanker was flying without its location transponder activated and could not be detected by air traffic control.

Books are the BEST gifts for kids. Toys are great. Candy is delightful. Clothes are necessary. But watch kids unwrap a graphic novel and just GET LOST. The chaos fades away, they curl up and relax, and all the manic energy of the holiday takes a nap.

I’m not aromatherapy kind of person…my husband is very sensitive to scents…but today I have a simmer pot going. Some orange peels, apple slices, whole cloves, ginger slices, and cinnamon sticks in the slow cooker. It smells so nice in here right now.

Happy to report that our school absolutely loved our first virtual viist via @bookelicious.bsky.social

The kids were so engaged listening to Peter Brown talk about writing and drawing the Wild Robot!

They want to do more virtual visits! Great for our off-cycle years!

So I haven’t seen Wicked for Good yet. Mostly because I don’t love the second half of the musical but I can’t stop laughing at the fact that my news feed has more than a dozen articles on a chunky sex cardigan! Like suddenly the movie might be relevant to my interests!

I saw a meme last night about a generational divide marker of folks who cannot sit through videos and want the words typed out because they read faster than they can watch a video and I felt that deep in my heart. I'm happy for folks who love video, but I hate them. Give me text. Let me read.

I wrote an article about this years ago, so these examples are old: the-toast.archive.town/2013/09/30/b... Plus Jayne Ann Krentz has a whole bunch of historicals where it's disappointing at first.

Remember when Amazon held a sale during Independent Bookstore Day in an effort to undercut indie bookstores?

We didn’t forget. Support local bookstores during Small Business Saturday and beyond.

Mafia/gang stories exist within the framework of a politically corrupt system. So bad man behavior can often times be restorative street justice. But notice how in those communities if done right, actual abusers are punished. I need yall to read Demon’s Dream which actually nails this.
I genuinely wonder if some of these authors have even watched The Godfather or Casino, listened to a podcast, anything. So many of the mob guys that are still around have YouTube channels lololol
Sometimes I think about how violent, sex negative, and weirdly vanilla dark romance is. I also wish I could explain proper gang/mafia related codes of ethics vs an MMC who is just violent and emotionally abusive. Loving a bad man is different than he’s not bad because I love him.

The Benoit Blanc trilogy might end up as one of the best artistic statements on the diseased conservatism of our era, and l think Wake Up Dead Man is my favorite of the trilogy, largely because it’s Rian Johnson trying to understand Christianity and its adherents more than having a definitive take.

My husband and I first started flirting/interacting during our college’s production of Tom Stoppard’s Travesties. I was a costume runner who suddenly had to also bring ice to one of the actors who fractured his ankle two weeks before the play opened. We started talking each night. Rest well Tom!

Just got back from Wake up Dead Man and wow! It was amazing. Twisty, turny, turbulent, funny, and yet full of incredibly touching, sincere moments of grace.

One of the many reasons I love Bluesky is because I can curate my feed so that I more frequently come across post threads like THIS. #BookSky #Uplift
If what you're looking for is a book that is not "loose" (ie, pages pulling or falling out in groups), "tight" might seem like what you want.

I, a full-contact bibliomaniac, can tell you that tightly sewn bindings can warp pages, so I've been hesitant to use "tight" to mean "not loose". (3/4)
