My colleague & friend Richard Green raises good reason to NOT sign Trump’s compact: “the president “is a person who has not kept agreements for a very long time. If we are going to sell our soul, let’s not sell it to someone who is going to pull the football away.”

"The twentieth century’s worst episodes did not begin with gunfire. They began with named categories—“parasites,” “vermin,” “degenerates,” “enemies of the people”—ways of talking that prepared the ground for ways of acting."

“No self-respecting university could ever accept something like this,” said Lee Bollinger, a First Amendment scholar and former Columbia University president. “Trying to protect conservative ideas against being ‘belittled’ — that’s about as violative of the First Amendment interests as you can get.”
Colleges weigh whether to sign onto Trump plan or forgo federal benefits
A new proposal from the Trump administration would give colleges funding advantages if they adopt conservative priorities.

Albania and Azerbaijan were never at war, but since President #Trump claims to have settled the “conflict”, the presidents demanded President #Macron to congratulate them on the “big win”.

Democrats: "we need to stop doing identity politics, & focus more on kitchen table issues"

Me: ok, that's a false choice. You can embrace left wing economic populism without throwing marginalized groups to the wolves

Democrats: "oh, we're not doing economic populism either"

Me: ok then...

This is the university in my hometown where both my parents worked (my Dad for almost 30 years, including nearly 10 as a Dean) and where my brother graduated.

Used to be a serious liberal arts college with a legit law school. Used to be….

Plus, PA is a really cool field with tons of smart people, fascinating questions, classic debates, new challenges, etc.

And my impression is there are generational transitions where there will be retirements and jobs.

So don’t say I didn’t give you heads up to get into PA.
davebrady72.bsky.social
My impression is there are far more public admin than public policy programs. MPAs still outnumber MPPs.

And we will always need teachers of fundamentals of public administration.

There are few jobs in adjacent fields in Sociology these days: labor mgmt relations, unions, bureaucracy, org theory.
davebrady72.bsky.social
I know people think PA is facing an uncertain future after DOGE & Trump. But I’m actually optimistic about academic jobs in PA.

My hunch is there will always be jobs in govt relations in private sector, city & county mgmt, there will always be agencies that need mgmt, & budgets to do.

One of the privileges of being Chair of the Public Policy & Management Dept at @priceschool.usc.edu is learning more about the rich & vibrant field of public admin (PA).

If I was a social scientist looking to pivot or expand job prospects, I’d do everything I could to genuinely join PA.

Republicans want to prosecute the left for incendiary words that could lead to violence. They should read Kirk’s own incendiary words first.
