How many people pardon in the Jan 6 insurrection are now working for ICE?

ICE acts like institutionalized Proud Boys.

I usually think anonymity is only appropriate for people who are threatened or marginalized.

If one of our criticisms of ICE is their anonymity, there is value in giving face to the opposition.

Looks like cute inflatable animals is going to be this year's go-to Halloween costume.

It is great symbolism.

It shows a sense of humor in the face of adversity, and makes it clear where the violence and lawlessness is coming from.

Supporting wanton murder in Gaza, blackmailing Ukraine, self-dealing in Qatar, etc, etc?

This is being held up as the kind of domestic policies that we should aspire to?

And if he can't get the Nobel Peace Prize, he should at least get the Fields Medal in mathematics.

My latest collaboration, providing a soundtrack for another Yann Le Bihan video.

Exercising creativity in other domains helps me be more creative in my scientific work.

And life can't be all doom and gloom (democracy, climate, poverty, etc).

The Democrats should start every interaction with journalists or Republicans with two questions:

1. Will Trump have a brain scan by a respected third-party to document his dementia (or lack thereof)?

2. Why is Trump so focused on preventing the release of the Epstein files?

Trump: "We call them the water drugs. The drugs that come in through water. They're not coming. There are no boats anymore. Frankly, there are no fishing boats. There are no boats out there period, if you want to know the truth. Does anybody go fishing anymore?"

Democratic politicians need to get some training on how to deal with witnesses who don't answer uncomfortable questions and use them instead as an opportunity to go on the attack.

Pam Bondi may be a terrible person but she is skilled at getting in her sound bites and opposition research quips.

It's a pretty big deal that the NYC Bar Association--one of the most prominent and respected bar associations in the country--is accusing the President of ordering the "unlawful summary execution," i.e. murder--of civilians in violation of US and international law. www.nycbar.org/press-releas...

Metrics are tools.

The primary question about a tool is whether it is useful in helping achieving our goals.

While science goes into developing metrics, the choice of what metrics to use depends on what your goals are.

The choice of metrics cannot be used to set overall goals.

You mean the movement that is trying to conserve American democratic principles and institutions, or were you talking about the Republicans?

I think we have found out who the real conservatives are and who was just after power and money.

Now, it is largely the Democrats and a few old-school conservative organizations that are trying to conserve traditional American values and institutions.

It is interesting to see how horse fodder and food was as much a part of our energy mix (20%) in 1820 as coal is today. In 1920 coal was up at 70%. Note these are percentages not quantities.
