Yes. If it were just about getting fired, it might not be so bad ...

I actually don't believe that all books and reading materials are appropriate for all kids at all times in all circumstances. It is good to be thoughtful. Yet, censorship is when the powerful decide appropriateness for the less powerful at all times in all circumstances. No challenges/exceptions.

If you censor all the books, the only texts that can be taught are the ones from centralized sources.

I am teaching teachers at the BA, MA, and PhD levels this semester. The thing all the groups have in common is that they are not sure what they are supposed to be doing. And that is not a slam to them. They are scared that if they do teaching, there will be a raft of consequences. Not just firing.

Rereading Jane Eyre for class (and it as good as I remember) but it is making me feel old that I remember Rochester as being positively ancient and he apparently "might be thirty-five."

LLMs are purely statistical engines that operate on purely formal objects (character strings). We can “train” an LLM to distinguish true from false or fact from opinion or warranted from baseless just as soon as we can figure out how to reduce semantics and epistemology to syntax (which is never)

My 80-year-old aunt told me she "got tired of streaming" and is borrowing DVDs from her library again.

So I checked it out and they have an amazing selection. Blu-rays too, from Criterion, Kino Lorber and other boutique labels.
