Gavin Newsom is a shitheel who should never be president, but the legislation he vetoed was unconstitutional, poorly written, both underinclusive and overexclusive, a severe privacy infringement for adults, and would have done nothing but cost California lots of money in court (to lose)

One person on this list is a school counselor at a high school down the street from me and she’s been purged from the website so fast Google cache doesn’t know about it yet

i said this a few weeks ago, but a reminder that windows 10 being "end of life" does not mean your operating system will immediately stop working. even if the OS itself doesn't get updates, the apps you use most often (the browser.) still are. more important to have adblock + firewall these days

This is yet another reminder that the "you can just walk around with your papers and be fine!" is a lie: the cops routinely claim whatever documentation you provide is invalid

It's racism all the way down

"During the encounter, Greeley said they told her she 'doesn’t look like' a Greeley."

www.yahoo.com/news/article...
Chicago Tribune: Greeley, who was born at Illinois Masonic hospital and is adopted, carries a copy of her passport just in case she runs into federal agents.

“I am Latina and I am a service worker,” Greeley said. “I fit the description of what they’re looking for now.”

During the encounter, Greeley said they told her she “doesn’t look like” a Greeley.

“They said this isn’t real, they kept telling me I’m lying, I’m a liar,” Greeley recalled. “I told them to look in the rest of my wallet, I have my credit cards, my insurance.”

If there’s one thing about the last decade that has truly done my head in, it’s seeing how many people - including many very well educated people with power - appear to be totally incapable of spotting an obvious bullshitter in the act of bullshitting.

How do people not SEE the extent to which this guy is an utter bullshitter? Is this some kind of autistic soul-read thing I'm manifesting? I don't understand how people aren't getting constant red flags from this guy. Every picture just trumpets bullshitter, he is like a parody of a normie-fooler.

There's a reason my police abolitionism is often expressed as "I don't call the cops because I don't want someone to roll up six hours later and shoot my dog" to folks I'm trying to warm up to the concept.

I have long believed that we should be WAY more vocal about how police and ICE constantly murder dogs, and I think this is great messaging actually.

The reality is that you can mobilize a whole lot of usually tuned-out Americans around a “someone is being mean to hecking doggos” cause.

Yup, Elliott noticed that later, it's just in a thread that's hidden because the person in question ended up being a massive asshole

Actually, hilariously related to the discourse - growing up my dad didn't really use the acute e and thus I generally don't use the acute e, especially when doing Documentation, so the time that happened it happened because whoever was entering me into the system put the acute e there for me
afiregender.bsky.social
Hell, even with the Chosen Just One Last Name, I *still* run into problems sometimes because some systems can handle the acute e and some Extremely Cannot (shoutout to the one time I saw my last name as Prez)

My dad changed his last name because double barrelled surnames weren't really A Thing when he immigrated, and *my* last name is different on my birth certificates in the USA and in Bolivia because it *still* wasn't really a thing even when I was born!

Even today, there are ppl whose names show up differently on different documents. This is why "no match" voter clauses are so evil and effective.

If you're Thai? Forget about it.

Lots of us have great-grandparents names who were absolutely changed when they came here, and when people say otherwise, they're assuming your great-grandparents name was in the Roman alphabet.
robynelyse.bsky.social
Now, more than ever, it's important to understand why so many the myths we tell ourselves about immigration are actually very harmful.

First of all, your great-great-grandparents names *were not changed* at Ellis Island. No one there had the authority to do that.
