As the people who insist otherwise try to burn the country, it's important to affirm that immigrants, from everywhere, are awesome, and America is better the more immigrants we have. You have to be just empty and vapid and unimaginably small to reject that.

This is simultaneously the most stressful and the most heartening thing I have watched in a long time.

This video of Chicagoans intervening to save a man from being abducted off the streets by ICE is making the rounds on Instagram.

Community action works.

This is simply untenable. There is no way forward with media and political classes captured by the right. Every time someone commits a crime you have to pray it's not an undesirable or it's purge time, then when it turns out to be themselves again they just shrug and wait for the next one.

Funniest possible person to say nothing bad happened when he was a kid as a result of everyone having guns
factpostnews.bsky.social
RFK Jr: We had lots of guns when we were kids. Kids brought guns to school and were encouraged to do so. And nobody was walking into schools and shooting people. There are many things that could explain this. One is the dependence on psychiatric drugs.

Countdown to Trump supporters using that drawing as their new logo and fetish and waving it proudly at rallies.

Ooh! There's a "woo-woo factor"! Nice

In this little speech full of clearly untrue statements, perhaps the most unbelievable is the notion that Trump can have "friends".
atrupar.com
Trump: "Beverly Hills, I have friends, they leave their trunk open for their car bc they know they're going to be vandalized. They don't want trunk ripped off in order for them to steal what's in their bag. They leave doors open so when they go in to steal the radio, they don't rip off the door"

I get what you're saying, but I think about it differently. Sure, the technology makes different kinds of movies possible (try making Jurassic Park in 1932), but that has nothing to do with the quality of the movies. The magic of connecting with a story didn't get easier to create, you know?
ajlitton.bsky.social
Not necessarily! Would Raging Bull have been better in color? Would Barry Lyndon have been better if faster film stock were available? I don't think an artist's vision and graphical fidelity have a lot to do with each other most of the time. Art lies elsewhere.
ajlitton.bsky.social
I don't think so. Technically the images get sharper etc., but at the end of the day it's all art. Even the most formulaic Marvel movie is made by people working to turn imagination into light. And art is inherently risky! It works or it doesn't, and that hit rate is not technology dependent.

1999’s The Limey is an under-appreciated classic. RIP.

A.I. is popular because it gives you the experience of being a boss: you get to give annoyingly specific instructions about how to do something you don't actually know how to do yourself, and then claim credit for the end result.

Hey look, it’s our long-overdue punishment for referring to simple state machines that compile into a kilobyte of code as “artificial intelligence”

This is an insane thing to write about game development. www.nytimes.com/2025/07/28/a...

Most experts acknowledge that a takeover by artificial intelligence is coming for the video game industry within the next five years, and executives have already started preparing to restructure their companies in anticipation.
After all, it was one of the first sectors to deploy A.I. programming in the 1980s, with the four ghosts who chase Pac-Man each responding differently to the player's real-time movements.

It’s evil but also so funny that JD Vance was like “you can’t be an American unless your family was around before 1851, the year my great-great-great-great grandfather hopped a ship and fled Ulster the night before the British were due to hang him the next day for fucking a pig.”

Trump keeps holding up dictators and strongmen as his model, keeps saying how much he hates our democracy, keeps bad mouthing America and its core values and his cult claps along like seals and calls it “patriotism”
atrupar.com
Trump: "In China, you know how long it takes? One day. It's called President Xi. 'Boom. It's okay.' Over here we're gonna have almost the same thing. We're getting fast approvals."
