A lot of people think that every international student admitted means one fewer spot for domestic students, when the opposite is more likely true - the tuition revenue international students bring allows public universities to provide substantial discounts to domestic students, improving access.

The 1st year students I am teaching right now include a few who are already experiencing their geospatial revelation, and it's a wonderful bright spot.

We welcomed alumni and donors Bob Myers and Jim McCrory back to campus Friday!

Bob has committed up to $25K in matching support for the GeoGraphics Lab, directly funding student cartography internships. Jim has also been a key supporter of the lab.

There's a subfleet ased out of GUM that fly to routes like Okinawa, Ulanbataar, etc ex-NRT in addition to running their south Pacific island hopper route.

Here is a stock image that appears to be the basemap for this: www.vecteezy.com/vector-art/5...

Examples indexed in stock collections appear to go back to 2017 according to Tineye results.

Not sure if it's nearby, but Proud Mary is amazing in Melbourne. One of my favorite breakfast experiences on the planet.

We're so excited about a new opportunity to support the GeoGraphics Lab @pennstategeography.bsky.social - our alumnus Robert Myers has committed up to $25,000 in a 1:1 match. These funds propel student cartographers working on mapping projects for community partners: raise.psu.edu/GeoGraphicsLab

The chaos is really part of the charm of the ICA experience. :) It's usually not boring, and it's always wonderful to meet a broader int'l audience of cartofolks.

The stickers are so awesome, and you're so very welcome to always join our PSU celebrations at the UC. ☺️

Right... I suspect that's what they intended. GPT and other LLM/LMMs can make rudimentary maps (at best, currently) but the idea that generative AI has replaced maps is wishcasting.

arobinson.bsky.social
Not even a little? Who has examples of AI replacing maps that they would be able to share? Does AI in this case just mean "computationally-derived"?

Yep - I guess I need to entertain a flat earther in my class and honor their special viewpoint? Cool.

Oh wow. This is awesome.

Maybe inspired by Leland Wilkinson's Grammar of Graphics?

Not many in Geog in the US though. And I always tell grads to definitely not plan on doing it the weird way I did! Your point re: new folks not fixating so much on their first destination is spot on. It's hard to drive home that you really can't expect the first gig to be perfect in all aspects.
