No one will remember anything Linda Reynolds did in politics, but we will remember this forever. What a piece of sh#t.

Counterpoint: the system as it currently stands only seeks the consent of current residents, and precludes future residents who might wish to make a suburb their home.

I’m not sure I’d argue that a system that often privileges wealthier / older residents over younger renters is a democratic ideal.

I can’t stress enough that if you’re writing anything longer than a couple of paragraphs, spend time thinking about formatting, layout, readability and design.

The amount of work it takes to get to “compelling and professional advocacy” from “unhinged rant” is ten minutes of using a style sheet.

De Brouwer made the exact same argument two years ago after the Robodebt Royal Commission report was delivered. This is how I treated it in Mean Streak: "Grow up."
Screenshot of the book Mean Streak by Rick Morton. The text reads:

for the past decade and half, when conclusive certificates were
discontinued, is counterproductive to the Parliament’s intent.
‘When it comes to deliberative material, FoI does not ensure
transparency (because advice is not being written) and it
undermines integrity (because advice is not being written).’
So officials don’t put things in writing because they might get
released under Freedom of Information laws, therefore the FoI
laws aren’t working?
Grow up.
De Brouwer is not alone in his views. Former secretaries have
been doing the rounds making exactly these kinds of noises, as if
the outcome of poor professional behaviour is the result of some
law and not … poor professional behaviour.

Day two of Jillian Segal - the Special Envoy to Combat Antisemitism in Australia - being silent on the actions of a political cult that executed the Holocaust, protesting in the streets of Australia and attacking First Nations people. Apparently first they came for mob, but I was very busy.

The whiplash from how quickly Aussie media will label any pro-Palestine protest as ‘antisemitic’ but when actual Neo-Nazis are protesting on some white supremacist shit the media is like ‘woah woah woah. let’s not go throwing any labels around’

Several thousand flagwits in MEL today, & budding fuehrer Thomas Sewell fulfilled his dream of addressing the masses outside the VIC parliament.

Despite being warned in 2018 that jobseekers were being exposed to unfair and excessive decisions, the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations ‘chose to continue with the status quo’.

RIP the legendary David Stratton who not only was monitored by ASIO for suspected communist sympathies but also once gave a film - 'The Replacements' - zero stars because "It is a film which celebrates strike-breakers and scabs". Read the transcript here: letterboxd.com/margaret_dav...

given one of the few good uses for LLMs is coding assistance maybe tech council members should immediately open source all their code under a permissive license. to do otherwise would risk harming investment in the AI industry in Australia, imo

A new paper highlights that while countries like Australia have seen construction productivity fall, NZ saw a boom in the 2010s.

Their secret? Zoning reform.

By allowing more medium-density housing in cities like Auckland, they supercharged their construction sector

A look at the caveats & spin still dominating the conversation.

Last week, I got an email from Microsoft. It told me I’d be paying 46% more for my Office subscription, starting next month.

But when I tried to cancel, it offered me the same price I was already paying — without the generative AI features I never asked for in the first place.
I’ve had it with Microsoft
The company is deceptively raising prices on existing customers to fund its AI spending

Hey Daniel, speaking of schedule changes, random Q for you:

Was talking to a mate who said they still handle schedule changes with pen & paper & apparently it operates like a stock trading floor with people shouting all over the place.

Is that true? Is there a reason things aren’t more automated?
