If your school zone infrastructure doesn't look like this, maybe it's time to start asking why not.

Fahrradfahren verlernt man nicht. Und in den Niederlanden gibt man den Menschen erst gar keine Gründe, damit aufzuhören

Ok this is brilliant. Nearly every transportation planning decision prioritizes the car, but cars aren't available or desired by everyone and that's gotta change. Bravo @nrdc.org

& yes any decent shop will offer mechanical services on a complete e-bike system. If they don't, walk away. ^kj
bikefun.bsky.social
If it's a Bosch system & they are a Bosch dealer you should be able to use them (as part of their agreement as a vendor). I think most shops that qualify as dealers for e-systems specifically have that in their contract language; whether they'll do it is another matter. ^kj

America's deadliest city for car crashes is finally getting a transportation advocacy organization dedicated to bringing deaths down and making transportation more affordable and equitable — by unapologetically focusing on making its neighborhoods less dependent cars.

Talked to a traffic engineer once who said: We can design the roads to be safe, but you can't fix people, people are going to do stupid things. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

IF YOU'RE NOT DESIGNING THE ROADS TO BE SAFE WHEN PEOPLE DO STUPID THINGS, THEN YOU'RE NOT DESIGNING THE ROADS TO BE SAFE.

Narrowing the entrance so bikes fit through but cars don’t would solve a lot of Nashville’s problems (and real, concrete protections)

We treat the time of people in motor vehicles as a precious commodity that must be conserved at all costs, while the time of people outside of motor vehicles is infinitely expendable.

@nashvilledot.bsky.social y’all got any more of them giant concrete balls? Demonbruen hill could use them so that drivers won’t drive through the bike lane or over the concrete, damaging it, in order to park for free along the curb.

Hell, car drivers are even going over the low concrete buffer on Demonbreun ^kj

On the unmet need for safe bike storage:

"Results suggest a relative undersupply of bicycle parking at destinations compared with free car parking [and] an increasing need for bicycle parking for costlier e-bikes."

I just wish all the people who oppose traffic calming could understand how much joy and confidence children can get when they are able to safely walk and bike places.

In 1991, computer consultant Steve Roberts built a 580-lb (263 kg), 105-gear recumbent bicycle decked out with all the gear he'd need for a rolling home office.

He called it the BEHEMOTH (Big Electronic Human Energized Machine, Only Too Heavy), & rode it 17,000 mi around the US.
Photo of a man riding a recumbent bicycle with trailer, both of which are loaded with stuff. Here's a list of some of the stuff:
Satellite station for email and SOS.
Ham radio bay.
Trailer frame made out of steel. Fibreglas-covered cardboard over computer. 2/3 of the space for camping equipment
Battery bay with 30 amp hours of batteries (15 amp-hours more at the Console)
Satellite station mainframe
Solar panels (72 watts)
Antennae for ham radio, mobile phone and pager
Removable briefcase with 10-watt solar panel lid & laptop computer inside
Safety flasher
Security motion sensor
Stereo system, CD player & 150 CDs
Refrigerator
Computer with a 207MB HDD, CD-ROM & modem
Brain Interface Unit (helmet)
Dual waterproof speakers
Map case
Handlebar keyboard built into the grips using binary code
105-speed drivetrain
Steering link
Phone
Console: Mac computer with 40mb HDD (graphics). IBM computer with 40mb HDD (CAD, mapping, satellite tracking). Toshiba laptop for typing while riding. GPS chip. Speech synthesis & recognition. 30-watt beam headlight. Fax machine & modem boards.
