There is an actual life-changing conflict between WFH being cheaper and more efficient, an entire layer of middle managers who need to have meetings to feel alive, and the commercial real estate cabal that runs all cities. It’s going to get so fucking weird.
remote work is like birth control or UBI atp where there’s overwhelming research consensus they improve quality of life for people they apply to, yet access is impeded or blocked by the ruling class because the thought of marginalized ppl having rich full lives makes steam come out their ears
2. Rolling Stone is owned by a large media conglomerate, which is ending remote work across its brands.

My home is Portland, Oregon, ~1,000 miles from the nearest office, so this marks the end of the line for me at RS.

Seeing people say that "by the numbers" Stancil is right about No Kings being bigger than the civil rights mvt. But no. That's not how any of this works.

It's like saying I'm a bigger organizer than Greta Thunberg because I'm taller. It's not technically true, it's just stupid.
Heroes.
#OtD 16 Oct 1859 abolitionists led by John Brown, including Black people recruited by Harriet Tubman, raided a federal armoury in Harpers Ferry, WV, to get weapons to arm enslaved people. Several were killed, and Brown later executed for treason stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/8828...

SCHUMER RESIGN BITCH
SCHUMER: I hope and pray that that Trump will sit down with us and negotiate

BASH: And if he doesn't, I'm just confirming that you'll vote no. Is that correct?

SCHUMER: We are hoping that he will negotiate with us

BASH: And if he doesn't?

SCHUMER: We must get a better bill than what they have
WHY AREN'T THEY ALL DOING THIS
Chris Murphy: "This is a country that's falling apart because Trump is in the middle of an authoritarian takeover. We're not on the verge of an authoritarian takeover. We're in the middle of it ... I have no moral obligation to vote for a budget that literally funds the destruction of our democracy"
I gotta say, my nieflings are 8 and 12--actual kids--and if either of them used the language those Young Republicans did, we'd be having a full-on family reeducation retreat.

this will kill people.
Just got a call from a lovely but very nervous Dr, who advised I wouldn't be routinely screened for breast cancer because I'm not indicated as being "biologically female" on the central NHS database and my biology wouldn't indicate I'm at risk.

My records have been altered, which is upsetting.

Just learned the difference between a croque monsieur and a croque madame is an egg and it’s named that because the egg looks like a ladies fancy hat. That’s when society worked, when we were all putting little hats on sandwiches.

.. I don’t even think it’s worth saying anymore

AI is a lack of consent machine

It’s about class and consent

And here’s where I’m ACID about some of this being gendered

especially around CHILDREN which we claim to care about many of the transgressors will be women for shit like this

Crazy how much both the administration and the elite media have joined in the consensus that these people are not real or somehow don’t count.
look i was recently talking to a septuagenarian life long dem (who shall remain nameless) and generic lib, and she was like “i just think there should be firing squads and they should sell tickets.”

Instead of "This is inappropriate!" Democrats - especially those who might run for president - should say right now "Anyone who participates in this should know: You are committing a crime, and in the next administration you will be prosecuted."

That will change the frame of the story.
Again, it is a full-blown federal felony crime for anyone in the White House or Executive Office of the President to order tax investigations into anyone.

And it's not just a crime to DO it, it's even a federal crime for an employee not to REPORT such an order to the Treasury Inspector General.

I am still waiting for a detailed, pedagogically-backed argument for how AI improves learning. I have only been told it’s a helpful tool that will help students learn and teachers prep faster, but still waiting for what it’s supposed to do that human educators with more funding can’t do.
It felt like an extremely radical thing to say "you can just not teach them how to use this. i don't even know what it means to teach them AI skills but you can also just not. it might make your students more hireable, honestly."

But this idea that it's a tool whose existence justifies its use?
Excellent 🧵.
I was at my old high school today, for the first time in over twenty years, to talk to the teachers about how their curriculum can better support students. AI came up, and so many teachers were saying "Well it's a tool, they have to know how to use it, it's the future so we have to accept it!"

Thread, agree, and also: can we focus on the real nazis, please
I've been down this rabbit hole for 2 days now. Each video is crazier than the last. First it was the lightning bolts, then it was a fixation on the star, then it was the number 8. Not a single video references a source. It makes the left look absolutely insane to an average person.
TikTok currently has a ton of videos claiming Taylor Swift is selling a necklace with Nazi imagery because it has lightning bolts in the chain when 1. It is very clearly referencing the chorus of the song Opalite and 2. The SS lightning bolts were not shaped like that.

Everyone please touch grass.

JK Rowling has denied the nazi persecution of LGBTQ+ people in the Holocaust, uses the money she earns to legislate trans people out of existence and asked her followers to photograph women going to the washroom.

Keira Knightley: we all gotta figure out how to live together
Rowling, whose best-selling young adult series and accompanying movie franchise sparked a pop culture phenomenon in the 2000s, has drawn backlash in recent years for her outspoken views against the transgender community.

When asked by Decider if she knew about a fan "boycott" of Rowling's work, Knightley, 40, said she was "not aware of that." "I'm very sorry," said Knightley, who was joined by her "Woman in Cabin 10" director Simon Stone. "You know, I think we're all living in a period of time right now where we're all going to have to figure out how to live together, aren't we? And we've all got very different opinions. I hope that we can all find respect."

These are the people that told us the racist jokes were dark humor. They said it was ironic racism. They literally are not going to accept anything anyone else says, because they still believe that white supremacy will protect them. So Marcotte is not alone and will never heed a single warning
