Last year Biden was babbling to reporters about how Netanyahu wouldn't be opposed to a "demilitarized Palestinian state". Of course, within days Netanyahu refuted this and said even this wouldn't be acceptable, but it is funny that people pretended this was some exceptional pro Palestine position.
I've always been pro-Palestine but one of the things that soured me on "two-state solution" fetishists was hearing them talk about their vision of a Palestinian state. Basically they require it to be demilitarized and clearly subordinate to Israel, which is to say - not sovereign.

This is a terrible story--both because of the trap that was set (either in advance or ret-conned to seize a moment) for this graduate student but also because the student's department failed her. The 1st problem is easy to see, but I want to explain the 2nd one. 1/x
btw, every "reasonable" person who's own posting stuff like "well, the prompt was unclear," or "she actually kind of did the assignment OK so maybe the TA overreacted"--you are also part of the problem! You're laundering the deliberate targeting of a TA and a blatant abrogation of academic freedom!

This should never fall on the TA. Every single department should have a mechanism for dealing with this and protecting their extremely vulnerable grad students--people who are doing the labor that carries entire universities and who get paid absolute shit wages.
the actual merits of the grade are mostly beside the point, but i do think it’s worth thinking about how to insulate yourself a bit from bad faith actors if you’re a professor or TA. this M.O. (on a smaller scale) is common on the right.

Find an alternative. Ring is helping create a dystopian surveillance state, especially now that it's incorporating AI tech and facial recognition.
