When Fox News lies, people die | We explain on PBS Newshour how the antiscience disinformation spread by the Murdoch media empire and especially Fox News, likely lead to hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths in the U.S. And that's just COVID-19. Their fossil fuel disinformation is as deadly.

I wonder how afraid many Zionists are that Trump making his 'deals' with the Arab world, starting with Gaza, could signal a shift in US commitment to indefinitely pumping arms and money into Israel?

The UK surveillance flights over Gaza, have they ended? The UK government says the intelligence the obtained was only used to help recover the Israeli hostages, so they should end now. Right?

Good this. The thing is that Macmillan could be a one-nation Tory because British capitalism then was working for millions. Today it is not. That removes the economic base of one-nation Toryism.

Tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians return home to find devastation

The equipment they are using is decrepit.

Ali al-Attar, a bulldozer operator told Al Jazeera that the scale of the devastation is "beyond imagination".

“Just opening the roads alone will take at least a month, just so people can access the area,” he said. “The bulldozers are in poor condition. The one I’m using is leaking oil and needs major repairs. To be honest, we need 20 times the number of bulldozers we have got".

Latest UN satellite imagery shows that 41,000 housing units have been flattened in Gaza City alone- translating into over 8m cubic metres of rubble.

In Khan Younis, residents spoke to Anadolu Agency, describing devastation akin to a “tsunami or a 10-magnitude earthquake".

63-year-old Abdel Malek Al-Farra told Anadolu as he sifted through the wreckage of a four-storey apartment block that he had spent his life in, that "we came back hoping to find a shelter, but everything is rubble—even the empty plots of land are devastated".

“Where do we live? Where do we go? If we head to the sea, we’ll drown if the waves rise. The few remaining structures bear traces of racist graffiti left by soldiers.

There was a huge rally in london yesterday with around 450000 marching in support of the people of Gaza, of the West Bank and of Palestine; matching for peace, and for war criminals being brought to justice.

The relationship between Russia and the European radical right goes well beyond Reform's Nathan Gill being bribed.

In this post I trace the history back to the 1990s and look at the threat it poses now.

Flashbacks to my first job working on an earlier Argentinean crisis. That on this occasion a libertarian extremist is asking for a governmental bail-out, though, tells you all you need to know about the fairy-tale nature of their ideology. Even concrete US interventions are unlikely to save Argentina's peso for long unless they go further than so far promised—though it might give Milei a rickety bridge through the October election without an embarrassing devaluation.
By Maurice Obstfeld:
America's Argentina rescue won’t save the peso for long
The Argentine peso is in trouble again, but this time the US government is riding to the rescue. In late September, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced several supportive measures, including po...

Is your MP one of these? They need to attend the National Emergency Briefing on 27 November

Bit of an awkward coincidence that our paper comes out on the day Kemi Badenoch pledges to scrap the UK Climate Change Act, but perhaps provides also a bit of an explanation:

Many UK politicians, and Tories especially, still don't fully grasp the urgency of cutting greenhouse gas emissions!

This is a question I keep asking. There is a disconnect between economic and management academic studies.
Economists are now at panic levels over productivity but it’s not something you hear discussed in businesses. A lot of organisations don’t even measure it according to its economic definition.
pojmasta.bsky.social
Given the productivity puzzle has now been a thing for decades, is anyone doing deep empirical work on it - e.g. ID'ing cohorts of high/low productivity firms in the UK and then digging into differences and drivers in their operations, ways of working, strategies etc. via proper observation?

We can’t solve climate change without behavioral change. Maybe disruptions like this will force us to consider buying less stuff or shopping at Goodwill, which is one of the changes we need to make).

(This is not an endorsement of anything that the Trump regime is doing)

About a month ago, the Trump administration got rid of the de minimis exemption, whereby packages valued under $800 could slide in without import duties. Now there's a backlog as the government can't process all of this paperwork, leading to UPS just destroying packages
Business Insider headline reads: UPS is telling customers that their packages coming to the US are marked for destruction.

It CANNOT be said that we didn't have the technology AND know-how to radically cut emissions.

As per this example from the #EnROADS simulator, we could, if we wanted, to slam the brakes on our current emissions trajectory by acting on these areas!

Test it for yourself!

Energy Supply
Transport
Buildings & Industry
Economic & Population Growth
Carbon Dioxide Removal
Agricultural Emissions
