NOAA data show Mauna Loa was about to be deluged, but perhaps the US government shutdown has saved it just in time?

“London hits 'historic' clean air milestone 184 years early…a 'truly remarkable turnaround for the city's air quality.”

Quite a leadership achievement for @london.gov.uk’s government! While nations talk, (some) cities act. And get results.

It seems there are two main reasons things haven’t gone completely to shit in the US: 1. Lawyers and the courts; 2. Journalists and the media. Most of us can’t do anything about the first, but we can support journalism. Stop complaining about paywalls and subscribe to news & donate to public media.

I know Jane Goodall was revered by many in the environment movement, but it is pretty clear that she also harboured many seriously problematic colonial attitudes.

The 'overpopulation' stuff in particular was pretty bad, and as a concept the conduit of plenty of serious wrongdoing over the years

If it's true government blocked this report over it being too negative, then it's a damning indictment of Number 10's approach. Firstly, risks don't go away if you don't talk about them - they get worse. And second, it's easy to spin a 'positive' response. www.businessgreen.com/news/4520160...

I’ve received multiple death threats + doxing (including my home address) directly following harassment from Turning Point USA, Jack Posobiec, Andy NGO, + Fox News which called me an antifa ‘financier.’

I have been forced to move my classes online.

If journalists want to talk, DM me or reply here.

I teach a history of antifascism course @ruhistorydept.bsky.social and figured I'd start an ongoing thread this semester to share some insights from course readings and recommend some great works on antifascism.

In Mexico, every politician has a connection to the cartel.

In America, Epstein is the sex mobster everybody has a connection to.

Fighting dirty hands with dirty hands doesn't make them any less dirty, sister.

So now we know - the FBI has photographs of Trump with naked young girls.

this probably 'feels' obvious to many people, but truly, the amount of money, time and effort being invested into baking carbon offsetting into the Paris Agreement and country-level emissions accounting is absolutely bonkers

It is an incredibly bad thing, happening at the single worst time

You can't fix offsets, because they're not really broken

They are designed from the ground up as a way for polluters to falsify climate action, and for disgustingly rich bankers to divert funds away from frontline communities

As long as fossil fuels exist, offsets will exist

It's true! When I studied economics, I was stunned by the ROI of social programs. Every dollar spent on childcare returns about $2.80 to the economy, and healthcare delivers even greater returns with broader social impact.

A universal basic income is simply smart fiscal policy. Why the reluctance?
brenttoderian.bsky.social
For every €1 provided through a Basic Income For Artists pilot program in Ireland, the government got €1.46 back. So it’s being made permanent.

Over and over we see it. It saves public money to provide public housing. And it makes public money to provide basic income.

We can’t afford to NOT do it.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:
