It's a big improvement on what was there before.
This man used to give out about cycle lanes but says he's now their greatest fan. For more safe spaces, please select option 3 on consultation before it closes. dlrcoco.citizenspace.com/infrastructu...

Remember this one? “Humans aren’t very efficient movers—until you put us on a bicycle, when we become some of the most energy-efficient land travelers in the animal kingdom.” Via Scientific American @sciam.bsky.social #CityMakingMath

What happens when a city prioritizes people over cars?

In Haarlem, most streets are now limited to 30 km/h, making walking and cycling not just safer, but more pleasant too. This shift isn’t just about safety; it’s also about space, noise, and quality of life.

With the average new car at $50,000, let's look at the real costs of "freedom":

✅ Decades of debt
✅ Social isolation for every trip
✅ A leading cause of death & injury

Car dependency is a financially and socially crippling system, not a choice.
This is another barrier that needs to be fixed.

Over 60 cyclists pass on this side of the street in under 30 seconds. And their flow only stops because the traffic light turned red.

An efficiency impossible to match if these people were driving.
Great to see these incidental play areas as part of active travel schemes. Bonus is the stones being reused from the wall!
We coukd do something similar on roads would reduce alot of accidents.
Are there any discriminatory barriers left in the county that need removal?

I used to walk & cycle this in the 90's and it was a crazy endurance course back then; potholes, concealed entrances, abrupt surface changes, footpath intemittence,; sometimes it was practically a boreen & always, trucks & white van men hurtling down it, so fair play to them
