I do think yesterday’s results reinforced the dynamic that while much of the American leadership class is chickenshit, most of the electorate is not

Lina Khan - the legendary Lina Khan who strikes fear in the hearts of techbros, finance bros and giant corporations.

Well, if they HAD hearts, anyway. She strikes fear in whatever organ they have instead of a heart.

One less felon.
George Santos says he’s leaving New York City after last night’s election.

Zohran Mamdani is already making the city a better place.

1) there are a lot of Asians in especially north Jersey so they should have separated them out
2) as usual, white people being white people- 47% for Sherrill, 41% of white men and 54% of white women and she is the most white people appealing candidate one could make (veteran, mom of 4) 🤦🏻‍♀️
Exit polls from NJ are revealing. This looks a lot like 2020 for Biden. Whites went slightly against Sherrill while blacks went overwhelmingly, and Latino voters moved back into the 60-70% range

Big gender gap for white men vs women, sizable for Latino men vs women

Rs got trounced last night because:
- the tariffs were a mistake
- gutting ACA/Medicaid was a mistake
- raising electricity prices was a mistake
- unleashing ICE on Americans is a mistake
- demolishing the East Wing was a mistake

Repubs were going to tie all Dems to Mamdani anyway. It doesn’t matter that Schumer & Gillibrand didn’t endorse him & Jeffries did a half-hearted very late endorsement.

The idea NY Dems were playing long game for better midterms for the whole Party may be (partly) true. But it was a stupid plan.

remember all those hot takes during the primary about how Mamdani was the candidate for rich white liberals? a "champagne socialist" ?
yeah, about that

A big part of the reason why the Democratic Congressional delegation is so old is that so many Democratic state legislators got their careers nipped in the bud in 2010 and 2014. Focusing on winning as many state legislative seats as possible is the real way to fix the gerontocracy problem, too.

Oh wow this IS interesting.

The Democrat almost cracked 50% last night in this Texas State Senate special election.

We need to watch this one closely when the runoff hits in January.
Wow. Democrat Taylor Rehmet heading to a runoff with Wambsganss after getting 47.5% of the vote in a +18 Trump district. More than $4 million was spent by/in support of her two GOP opponents, with big checks from Miriam Adelson and billionaire Tim Dunn.

Rehmet spent $68,000.
In Texas 9th SD, Democrat Taylor Rehmet is leading three candidates-including Leigh Wambsganss, a well-known Christian nationalist activist who was supported by Trump, Texas GOP leaders and far-right donor Tim Dunn. The district includes Tarrant County, a +5% Trump county + bellwether for the state.

Look at the seats the Democrats held in 2010--there were tons of them across Appalachia, Great Plains, and South. The path towards rebuilding the party is not writing off these places as unwinnable. You've got to compete nationwide.
