Once upon a time, Word wanted me to correct "the glowing ember of the sun" to "the glowing member of the sun".

It still makes me giggle.

Fandom folks will be happy I've inched along on a few fanfics these past few days.

My problem is largely that I kicked a plot point down the road, but now that can is at my feet and I have to figure out what to do with it. Because I didn't actually PLAN anything with that bit, rotfl.

Like, it never really FELT like including "cancer" as a potential health problem would make my work feel dated and old-timey...

...and yet...science seems to be going that way...
ionaddis.bsky.social
With all the recent good news I've been seeing about vaccines and such against cancer, I had to pause when I was re-reading old work and wonder if "cancer" as the Big Bad Health Thing will someday soon be as much a marker of the era I wrote in as "consumption" used to be ages ago.

With the holidays upon us, don't give to Salvation Army. Not even change. It's a scumbag "charity" run by anti-gay zealots.

Habitat for Humanity is great. Your local Food Bank is great.

So many "charities" are for-profit scams. Use Charity Navigator to vet them. www.charitynavigator.org

Fun fact about the Salvation Army: they use a form of substance use treatment called work therapy. Oh, and by treatment, I mean they have people who have been convicted of drug charges work for their stores & warehouses in exchange for room, board, around a $1 a week, and minimal actual therapy.

The wizard needs to translate for us what mameys are, otherwise he might need the ex-paladin's help when people start thinking the wizard is actually a necromancer...

I'm so proud of everyone from my old neighborhood of Rogers Park in Chicago. I see what you have been and are doing. I am so proud of how organized the community is and how much more so everyone is becoming. It is inspiring. Just one example... And this is something EVERYONE can do. Everyone.
Informational flyer about Rogers Park Whistle Protocols, explaining how to use whistles to alert neighbors of emergencies, with color-coded alerts, steps for use, and encouragement to form a crowd and stay loud for safety.

Mr Ecuador. Look at how happy he is. This is a chap who is just *thrilled* to be there. Also look at how tiny his feet look peeping out of those giant fluffy trousers.

Salvation Army seen feeding ICE today. For anyone who doesn't already know about their bigotry, here is more, No need to give them your money this Christmas, or ever.

It’s dinner time for the police. Appears to be pizza from a Salvation Army van.

Broadview’s “free speech” curfew starts soon, at 6pm.

Exactly! They've been denying Jesus entrance all along, but by carrying the monstrance to the gates, they make it VERY OBVIOUS. They prominently and solemnly escorted Jesus through the streets of Chicago for the purpose of comfort to the faithful and the secular authorities turned them all away!

For any Catholic, the sight of a Eucharistic Procession being turned away at the gates of the destination is the embodiment of Jesus being denied entrance. You don't have to be Catholic to get the symbolism in that!

What Fr Dowling is doing here was not just "offering communion to detainees". A full on Eucharistic Procession is a really fucking big deal. In Catholic theological framing, those folks were the honor guard with the very great privilege of escorting Jesus himself to the detention center.

Sometimes when I posted images of Barbarella, people initially thought it was AI. No, no, it's a real 1968 movie. ☝️

Hey, sci-fi and fantasy folks, if you happen to know folks who are involved with various estates in the field, do tip them a hat about the Anthropic settlement. Agencies do not get $ out of the deal and may not remember to talk to estate clients. My agent was worrying about estates not being alerted

I went to a zine event today here in Austin - lots of young weirdos (very complimentary) making cool stuff - it was great, made me feel a bit more optimistic about the future, but also, GOD I'M SO FRIGGIN OLD

This is the pettiest of complaints, but I’m sick of websites and apps removing “no” as an option. It’s been replaced by “maybe later” or “ask again later.”

I swear there is a direct line between anger about women’s consent and this and it WILL be what drives me to villainy.

New: Judge Perry's ruling against Texas troops in Chicago is a banger.

1. Invokes Hamilton
2. Rips into ICE for lying
3. Says "law enforcement officers who go into an event expecting 'a shitshow' are much more likely to experience one than those who go into the event prepared to de-escalate it.
